New Christmas Present

My wife went and got me a 20g for Christmas. Its setup and so far lightly planted. Has Amazon Sword, Dwarf Hairgrass, and some Crypts. Has the Tetra filter that it came with and right now the Aquaclear 70 that had been on the 55g tank to assist with cycling. The BN Plec was thrown in cause he doesn't belong with the cichlids. I cannot find my Oto cat, haven't seen him for a week or so but he usually appears at random anyway. Either way check out my setup so far and tell me what you think. I am open for suggestions on scaping and stocking.

What a great Christmas gift! I would add a black back ground and more plants.

LoL. The black background is laying on the floor next to it waiting to be cut to size. More plants will definitely be in the works. I want it to be pretty dense.

What kind of sword is that? My experience with swords in 20 gallon tanks has been bad. They either take off and fill the whole tank, or they start off slow and by the time they get going everything else starts to choke them out. Just something to keep in mind.

If it were my tank I would probably add some cryptocoryne wendtii, the red variety to mix up the color. You could also try some Java Fern Windelov if it's available locally.

Was talking about red plants with the wife earlier, so I concur with the mixing it up a bit idea. The sword is Echinodorus amazonicus. The filter that is down the middle of it will be going to my old 29g that is now a community tank at my friends house.

That's not one of the huge swords, but they have a large footprint (about 12") when they reach full size.Just be aware they can end up dominating the tank.

Thinking about fauna, I think a school of cardinal tetras would look good. They have really good color in a planted tank, especially once it grows in.
