My try at a new 55

This is a discussion on My try at a new 55 within the Freshwater Journals forums, part of the Aquarium Photography category; --> I would do a 2.5 if you were going to try to hang it inside the tank. Otherwise, at least 2.5 gallons....

Depending on where you get him you can probably return him if it doesn't work out :D petco has a 2week return policy.

Personally I would give the fella his own tank if he doesn't turn out to be a community guy. In my experience and contrary to popular belief, betta make pretty good community fish :)

Problems with bettas tend more toward the betta's fins being ripped up by his tankmates than the betta being a bully.
As a backup a 2.5 would work, a 5 would be even better.

Yes I would do that no doubt. I hate seeing them in the stores looking the way they do

I kept a blue male betta in my 569ltr with angels, rams, gouramis and some apistos with no problem, he only lived for 4/5months in the big tank, but he had a blast.
You can only try.

Makes it sound as though the fish died after 4-5 months. While fish can die for various reasons, doesn't sound like there was no problem - if that was in fact what happened. Could also be interpreted to mean that you moved the fish out of the tank after 4-5 months, which can also indicate a problem.

Sounds like a great idea to hang one or more 2.5 gal. Inside a larger tank. Not sure how to make it work, clamps, tools, materials, equipment, but good idea I think.

thnx for the info everyone. I just finished another set of tubes and stones. I used a little bit larger tube this time. I am in the process of making a shelf of some sort for inside the tank, I have some Java Moss and some Subwassertang on the way and I wanna cover the shelf if possible with stones and moss for a carpet. Also my RCS are on the way from MN. fingers are crossed hoping they survive the trip. Should be here Monday.

Well no luck on the RCS or plants. Mail man has not dropped them off yet . Roads have been kind of rough here lately. Hope they are still alive

Oh hey the shelf is coming along well so far. I actually got the shape cut out and some of the stones in place. Thinking of maybe making a curtain of some sort to hang from the bottom of the shelf to the substrate.
