I just set up this "tree" in my tank ... isn't it nice? over the next few weeks I will see if the baby tears like being "leaves" on the tree if not I might replace with java moss. There are some guppies in there somewhere too but I guess they are hiding.
hi
please forgive me,i'm having one of my usual donut moments
i thought it was a vivarium.
well i still think it is beautiful, and a very cleaver idea.
In the past week or so I made these changes
- added yeast/sugar CO2
- planted dwarf baby tears
- pruned the pearl grass and planted tips everywhere
- rearranged tree and rocks
- removed a lot of duckweed from the water surface
- added 2 yellow female fancy guppies (but one of them died last night ... sad)
it is easy to make. I just stuck java moss on the tips of the branch and wedged the "trunk" end into the substrate with rocks. After a couple of weeks the twig is waterlogged and doesn't need the rocks any more.
can you get java moss anywhere? I would love to make one my self. I look for a twig that looks like a tree and then you rinse it and put it in? wouldn't it start to rot soon?
... Wow I like love that so much! Thats the most awesome thing I have ever seen. It's so creative... I'll have to try it myself once there is no snow on the ground that is. I got so excited when I saw this though. I thought it was a real aquatic plant. And I was going to say "WHERE DID YOU GET THIS AND WHATS IT CALLED" Because I really freaking want one. Lol, it looks GREAT I'm totaly jealous
That is actually one of the very few "fresh" ideas I've seen in a very long time. As a long time reader of TFH magazine I keep up with Takashi Amono ( http://www.adaeuro.com/gallery.asp ) for several years. I've seen some great works come from their team but this is a new idea that I think rivals some of theirs. I realize the difference between creating Zen like water themes is a touch different than creating a terrestrial landmark in your fish tank, but hey with his experience why not give it a try?
On another thought for your set up almost being park like, you could get a small piece of glass and bury it in your substrate. Set it so it lightly rises towards the back of the tank. Bury an airline under the substrate to the front of the piece of glass. As the bubbles collect under the glass and move to the back of the tank it will give the appearance of a river flowing quietly under the tree. You may need to add a valve to it to slow it down to get the right effect.
lol, someone call the doctor quick... i am experiencing massive head swelling!! haha. you guys are too nice.
That is a cool idea with the river! i like the thought of having water under water.
I saw a beautiful photo of a tank where someone created a "waterfall" with white sand and filter floss to look like frothy water "flowing" down a pile of rocks in the middle of the tank. it was beautiful. I wish I could remember where I saw that ... I will post a picture if I can find it.
you could even make a peaceful still pond with a mirror, with its edges buried in the substrate and the mirror reflecting up. i bet that would be pretty surrounded by crypt lutea to look like reeds, the plants would be reflected in the pond.
Thats stunning! I wish I was good at this stuff! I want my tank to look purdy Thats a really good idea with the water fall though... it looks pretty real, I still can't get over your tree though. I told my friend about it but she didn't care as much as I did. Lol typical, I always forget my friends don't care about this stuff as much as I do.
