My new tank. Day 1

I still have a WAYS to go. This is the only decoration I put in so far. The water is cloudy because I put it in the tank about......45 minutes ago? Sorry for the glare.

Thanks friend.

Im going to the fish store tomorrow to pick out fish to put in. Im going to wait a week or so before I purchase the fish to give time for the tank to set up alittle. The driftwood has not been waterlogged yet. Which is the reason I have a rock right next to it holding it down.

Ill have more pictures tomorrow

Im not sure what type yet. I think I want cichlids, but am unsure how many, and what type I should get that will be able to live suffice for a couple years without outgrowing the tank. I want as many as possible but I dont want to be inhuman.

Suggestions?

I like the cichlid tank that I saw on this site that someone has in a 55 gallon.

75 gallon (22"Hx48"Wx18"D)
I check the PH about 15 minutes ago and it was 7.2.
Ammonia and Nitrate's @ 0
Lighting at the moment - 2 Coralife Metal Halide 5,500K Lamp's
Room temp - 70*F
Heater = 300 watts.
Filter = Cascade 1500
Chemicals so far = Seachem Prime Tomorrow I am going to start adding Seachem Stability for a week straight according to the directions on the bottle. Any other chems i need to add?

Hmm, a good chichlid size tank, but do not add any other chemicals besides dechlorinator (prime is a good one). Do not try to adjust the ph using chemicals. Use either CO2 to lower it, or crushed coral to raise it. I would say for that size tank might be able to squeeze 1 or 2 oscars (NO MORE THAN !!). Or you could have a discus tank. THat size tank gives you many possiblilties. But most chichlids are sensitive to water conditions so i suggest you do a fishless cycle. If you are going to chose oscars, i would recomend getting double filtration for that tank since they are heavy waste producers. Hey if you have money, you could get a red-belly piranha tank.

I also must say, an oscar can reach pet status. They are extremly intelegent animals and they will know who you are. They dont cost much either, the only things about these is that they require you to care for them. They are quite sensivive and they get lonely if there is only one of them. You being next to the tank doing anything (washing the dishes to reading a newspaper) will provide the human interaction and curriosity they need. You should continue studying these incredible animals, im sure you'll love them.

Hi Firefighter337, that's going to be a lovely looking tank! Can I just ask how you plan on cycling it?
