My dear husband built this stand for me. How did he do? Be nice to him, or he will faint. LOL

I picked out this door handle:

I am not much of an aquascape designer comparing to all of the talent people in this board. Don't laugh at my bland tank. We wanted to make sure there are plenty of swimming space for the fish, so we don't overplant it.

Wow, pat your husband on the back. He did a great job. The stand is gorgeous. And the tank looks nice! I love those pieces of wood and the plants look great. A black background on the tank would really give the tank a finished look.

Neither am I, I just bought a bunch of plants and threw them in at random, needless to say there are a few plants I can't see to well anymore but it dose give it that chaotic natural look heheheh.

The tank and the stand are just wonderful, makes me one to make one for my 36 gallon and get it off an old desk, shouldn't be to much of an issue.... I'm about as good at carpentry as I am with aquascaping......

Thank you Johnny, Jean, and Zof.

Jean - I've thought about putting a background poster on the back, but the tank has no back view because it can be looked at from the family room and the kitchen. Yes, the tank will look like a bit unfinished because of the filter hoses and the light cores on the family room side.

Zof - this is the very first piece of furniture my husband ever made in his life. He isn't much of a carpenter either. If he could do it, you could definitely do it! The most crucial element in the entire process is to have the right tools. Keep us posted when you start making one and don't forget to post pictures. We should have taken pictures of our stand-making process, but we did not. :(

Great job on the stand.I build my stands too.It allows me to combine two hobbies.I'm no master carpenter either but I love woodworking. The tank looks great too.The good thing about live plants is the more random it is the more natural it looks so sometimes its best not to try to over design it.

i hope the stand was properly built structuraly, but appearance is fantastic. the fish handles add such a great finishing touch too. 1 gallon = about 8lbs, which 120lbs x 8lbs = 960lbs. no means to scare you but you did mention its his first piece of furniture ( which again did a fantastic job ) and im sure will work great but i want you to be aware that the 120 is a big tank weight wise.
IMO a natural looking planted tank is the nicest looking which youve done a great job with. this tank is going to look even better when the plants grow some too. i do suggest spreading the taller plants that are in clumps like the rotala out. what i mean is the seperate stalks. dont worry about the fishes room to swim, theres plenty. infact it appears you have angels which their slender tall bodies in the wild is what allows them to weave in and out of the tall vegetation.
again nice tank and thanks for sharing.

Hi Lee and OneFish2Fish, thanks for the compliment and advice. I've changed the plants layout a little bit since the pictures were taken. It's looking a little less "arranged", so we'll see.

About the frame itself, there are a lots of 2x4s in the structure; for each of the 4 corners, hubby doubled the 2x4s making it almost 4x4. The 4 supporting posts in the center (between the 3 compartments) are 2x4s. It's mostly solid wood throughout except for the shelves and back closure, which are plywood, plus the glass panels on both sides and on the doors; this stand is very heavy. It looks like it's supporting the tank very well so far. We're keeping eyes on it...
