i have been wanting to do a aquascape for a while and i finally decided to start! It will be in a 20gallon once i rehome my crawfish. i think i want to do african dwarf frogs in it or maybe even shrimp, if and when i get algae i will get an otocinclus and i want to keep it pretty minimal with the fish. As i said earlier i finally began the whole process!!!
so the first step to starting my aqauscape was to draw everything out on paper and to begin the growing process. i am growing dwarf hairgrass, a purple sword (idk the real name), and some kind of fern (again idk what type). they are in a 10g and i gave them their first dose of plant food. i will post pictures tomorrow i think. well i guess thats all hopefully ill get some people following this to help me along the way :-D
i will post as soon as possible. i kinda got carried away trying to do a cichlid tank too but, have all my plants in the ten getting fertilized and big pretty!!
Be sure not to bury the rhizomes on ferns. They will rot and die. Bury roots just up to the rhizome. You can also attach ferns to drift wood or rocks with cotton thread. The ferns will eventually anchor themselves and the thread will rot away. Good luck.
ok so ive gotten myself some driftwood and im trying to water log it, after that happens i will be planting what plants i do have and then pictures so maybe a week or so. i wasnt expecting to go this slow with it :/
its not done yet but i have some pics and a question!!
and now for my question, in the top of the tank im getting some weird slimy junk and idk what it is, how to get rid of it, or if will hurt my fish or plants. i am doing a small water change everyday starting today trying to get rid of it, but i would still like some other opinions
oooo i had that gooo :-( on my wood that i had in a tank sometime ago,
i took it out and bleach wipped it and after washing in tap water, tank safe
and left it in the hot sun..it seemed to have killed it..howerver
yours is on the side of the tank….scoop it out ?
thank you!! im trying to get as muc as i can without uprooting all the plants bc the roots havent taken hold in the gravel just yet but it is coming along. once all the nasty is gone ill post some good pics
ok people update!! i have the majority of the goopy stuff gone and ive been brushing the wood with a tooth brush so nothing will stick to it. my water is almost crystal clear then i will finish planting and take pictures yayy! now i need opinions, i saw some guy talking about super gluing java moss to stuff in the tank and the glue wont hurt the water??? idk what to think about all that so how else would i secure the moss to substrate or would the super glue on craft mesh or something work?
thank you i still have an anubias nana, java moss (once i buy it), alternanthera cardinalis (the pink plant), and thinking about also doing pennywort for a floater
ok first off the thread kinda died bc i lost some motivation with this tank after all the trouble so lets see if it can be saved
my drift wood is no more and was replaced with a fake piece but it works. the driftwood was grapewood and it was a huge mess.
i have a couple of ghost shrimp in there but i never see them so idk lol
and i will post pics in the next few days as soon as i clean the glass and get all the brown algae off
i believe thats all for right now but pics coming soon! yay!
The new fake stuff looks great and it doesn't impact parameters. I only use natural drift wood when I'm trying to provide a specific environment. After a while, the artificial drift wood takes on a patina that makes it pretty difficult to differentiate between fake and natural.
pictures tomorrow i promise!!!! ive just been busy trying to finish all the christmas stuff
