My Ctenopoma Hunting Shrimp

Spook has really grown a lot. She is the biggest fish in the tank now (except for the pleco). In this video she's hunting a ghost shrimp. it's hard to see it but it was sitting on the plant leaf. She's not a picky eater at all and eats pellets, frozen and dried foods and even flake. But once in awhile I'll give her a ghost shrimp or some of my guppy fry.

Quite deliberate isn't she?

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

LOL, I love how she grabs it and runs away with it, it remind me of my dog. But I read the title wrong,I thought it was some kind of vicious shrimp hunting something.

She's just over 5". She's got a little more growing to do. I've read they can get anywhere from 6-8". When I got her in January she was about 2-1/2".

They can get territorial with one another. I would only do 1 in a 55 but you may be able to get away with 2 if you buy them together when they're small. If you have small fish such as neons they will get eaten.

Hm. I've heard if they grow up together they are fine. What i was told was the problem is when you have one that sets up territories then you add another one later. I'll probably only end up doing two, but i'm going to try it. Worse case i'll move the second one somewhere else. Definitely not going to have fish the size of tetras as i wouldn't be able to keep them in the tank for long. I will have tiger barbs and cories though, is this going to be a problem? I've actually been looking for someone who owns them and has experience as to what they can actually fit in their mouths.

Mine does fine with the cories. No experience with the tiger barbs though.

awesome. Great to know. I think the barbs should be fine. they get up to 2-1/2 inches and should be quick enough to stay away. The cories were what i was the most concerned with. Great looking fish, can't wait to get my own! :)

It will be fine with tiger barbs. I have one in a tank with them, and if anything he was a little freaked out at first because they're so active. In the store he was in a discus tank, so he wasn't used to so much movement. He's adjusted well and gets along with all my fish, and doesn't even bug the khuli's, who I thought he might try and eat.
