it sometimes takes a few months for the wood to stop releasing tannins. Add a carbon sponge to ure filter for a month and ure water will be clear again.

your tanks really nice, well done :)

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

I love it! For your plants (since they're swords) you'll want at least 2 watts of light per gallon. It should be bulbs around 6700K rating. Trust me and do not skimp on lighting, because nothing will ever grow with the wrong me I've made that mistake. You'll also probably want some root tabs because your sand doesn't have any nutrients in it at all. I use the API root tabs in my 15 gallon that has play sand and it is growing great. You may also want to look into some Flourish excel (easier and cheaper than CO2 injection on a smaller tank). I use it and I think it works quite well in low light situations. I am by no means as expert though, but I have finally gotten my plants to grow well so I figured I'd share.

The background looks really good :)

20 gallon long: 3 adult Neolamprologus similis + about 11 fry of various ages; low light planted tank
20 gallon long:2 freshwater dwarf puffers (Puff Puff and Poofer); medium-light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Wormy; low light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Dante; low light planted tank
2, 5.5 gallon tanks that are currently empty (I see more fish on the horizon )
