Easiest IMO for newly planted tank: Take any damaged/ borwing/ yellowing leaves off each weekly w/c till everybody is done shedding. I always clip mine back when I get the shippment with any leaf that may look 'cranky' and then plant them, then do my weekly gardening and usually within the first 2 weeks it'll stop and settle down and then start sending out new leaves.
Love your Baccopa really nice colors!

I love your fishies - Thou I hadn't seen them here before I'll keep an eye out for my 45g maybe I just need some 'tougher' tetra's

awesome mean harri, i bet the plants are just "getting used" to everything and will probly be fine once all pruned (trimmed) and new leaves grow back. with my plants coming i am expecting a few to do the same. i havent yet trimmed the "water wisteria" down to stems (SA) but i think i will. (the baby tiny puffs hide behind the tiny heaves.
i'll post a pice of them on the plants they loves the plants, and perching on them.
back to topic, hey MH where do you find those tetras? silver tips eh? they look so fun, i'm glad they make you feel like they do (daddy). i guess you'll be planning the setup (as far as new fishies) around them? thats awesome! i hope you find some reall nice tankmates for them to become housemates with.
we all trust your judgement there i bet!
good luck! and dont stress too too much over the plants, the more you worry the more likely to just give up on them or make a rash desision, so just "bare with them" for a little. keep trimming the deads, and wait it out. patience is the hardest thing

rosehower my lfs had the silver tip tetras. I think I may add leopard corys or sterbai corys next. In fact I should call the lfs and see if they have either or both.

well i guess if you get them you'll just have to post pictures, i havent heard of either.
i just found an apparent fish mecca, so i'll be leaving here shortly to go there. wish us luck in finding fishies! well probably just substrate is a good idea. (need to do reasearch first before any new fishies. ) we lost the 3 cichlids. the other night. very sad. (they were moved so the puffs could move into the 29. the cichlids moved to a temp 5.5g and before we set up the temporary 20g they died over night. the filtration i have on the tank they were in (5.5g) was just not enough. completely my fault. and completely preventable. i suck

Update

My nitrates in the tank dropped from 25-30ppm to 10ppm from yesterday. The plants have to be assimilating theses and it's great news. I've been worried about the nitrates as it is 30ppm out of the tap.
I see a small patch of brown hair algae on one small section of the dw. it's funny that is is about 12 inches or more from the light. Yet the tip top of the dw is maybe 6 inches from the light and it's clear.

I found 2 snails in the tank. I got one out as it was on the power cord of the Koralia pump. I decided to leave it in there. I'll see what happens. I think since I won't be doing loaches I will get either Nerite snails or Ramshorn.

Yay for nitrate reduction.

Sounds good!

Algae in new set ups is SUPER common, so don't stress there!

Snails are real good lil helpers in the tank set up to help keep it clean so I'd keep them there

think the 3 big snails in mine are big apple snails, they're awesome, but they do leave a "snail slime" trail behind them, it coats the glass, it coats the plants, its annoying. i was thinking of getting a few ottos just to clean it up in there!

I decided to switch my lighting and go from the Coralife pc 65w x2 (130 total) 48" to an All Glass twin tube fixture with 2 T8 bulbs. The new light does have a polished reflector. I installed an Aqua Glo 40w T8 bulb and a Lige Glo2 40w T10. It's a T10 because they are switching over the T8 and there are still T10's out there. What a difference. The lighting is more subdued and way way better imo. It's more pleasant to look at and has now yellow-ish tint. First pic is the PC 65w 6700k Coralife. Second is the new light for a side by side comparison.

That looks so much better! Specially cause you're going for a Tetra set up there that likes things dimmer; very nice!!
Now just watch your Valli's cause when I tuned my lights down all of mine (the leopard the corkscrew etc) started growing like CRAZY!
