Lots of Discus Pictures

I just got these guys in Friday, so I thought I'd share pictures of them. Usually I'd only post a couple but they were being very photogenic and I couldn't decide, so here's a whole heap of pictures. Also, please excuse the gunk on some of the plants. The SAEs are still catching up with the last of the brown algae.

First the White Butterfly/White Scorpion, who is by far the most cooperative and photogenic.

The Checkerboard Pigeon:

I love this one. It needs one of those lol captions that says "I see what you did there."

Golden Crystal:

The Snow White, who wasn't feeling cooperative:

Together:

These two like messing with each other. I'm thinking they're both female, for some reason.

Next to my as-yet-straggly four leaf clover.

Aaaand now I'm off to do a water change.

Awesome additions to your tank. I really like that Golden Crystal, alot. I don't have any "yellow" in my tank, just lots of blues and reds. I would LOVE to have that fish!! :)
I'm glad to see the pic of your Snow White. She looks just like mine and when I'm looking at her I always wonder about the tail area and the fact that I can see that red "y" in it. Since your tail and my tail look exactly the same I think I can stop worrying now.
Really nice fish. How about a full tank shot??? *pretty please*

Thanks guys! I am really excited to have them... I think they're total stunners, but then I'm definitely biased. ;-) Romad, I totally agree with you. I just love the checkerboard!

You know Kym... Kenny still has seven of those Golden Crystals available, and his shipping is very affordable. :-D /enabler I really wanted to make sure I got a yellow, for some reason. He had a bunch of different yellows to choose from, but I settled on the crystal. I think I made the right choice.
Huh... I hadn't noticed that "Y" shape until you mentioned it. It doesn't show up that much in the tank, but in the picture it's really visible! I guess I won't have to fishnap your Snowflake now. I think this guy is a dude though, so maybe if she's ever looking for love...

Oh no, no tank shots until this thing grows in! The plants were delayed and it sat with water and Flourite for a while, and once the plants finally got here there was a HUGE algae outbreak. The plants are definitely still recovering. The hairgrass grew super tall to avoid the algae and now looks like weeds.

Who, me? Favorites? I have no idea what you're talking about. ;-)

Thank you! And hey, you're the first person to recognize it! I'm a major AC fan... the only game I like more is probably Elder Scrolls. And the symbol is just awesome. If I were more impulsive I'd probably have it tattooed somewhere.

I thought you might have got them from Kenny! They are really awesome looking fish. I'm going to have to go check it out, as to me that Golden is a serious stunner. I really like the Scorpion, too. It's funny, we all have such different taste.
My Snowflake IS a confirmed female, but with no one to love her. When I see her spawning on a leaf all by herself...it's just so sad. :-(
Yep! I sold off most of the others I had, since I wasn't completely pleased with them, and had room for some of Kenny/Forrest's stunning fish. You should definitely check out the Goldens! I may nab a couple more discus next month depending on what he gets in. Who knows, maybe you'll get a male for Snowflake. ;-)
It IS really interesting to see what everyone else prefers. I was reading elsewhere how everyone loved the wilds and how much better they were and thought it was funny because I had just sold some in favor of the domestics. I've been after a checkerboard for a while, but I didn't realize that I'd only gotten light strains until I saw them together. Oh well... there's an excuse to order again. I need some darker ones! :-D

Edit: Argg I can't decide on an avatar! I think the picture of the Golden looks best, actually. The others aren't clear enough. *fiddles*

I got them from Kenny in San Francisco. He does most of his business off of a discus forum... I can PM you a link if you'd like.

Gorgeous fish! I have thought about getting Discus but I fear they are a bit too putsy for me. Don't you have to do like 75% water changes daily or something like that? I think that Yellow is absolutely stunning.
It totally depends upon your fish, their size, tank size, filtration, what you feed, how much you feed, your goals, etc. There are lots of people who just like to "collect" discus and want to grow them out as big as possible, as fast as possible. They'll feed 6-8 times a day and change 90-100% of the water every day, but their end goal is just to have huge fish to stick in bare tanks and stare at. My guys grow like weeds with 3-4 feedings a day and a few decent water changes a week, and I'm perfectly happy with that. :)

I did 50% every day while growing them out. Totally worth it. Like Lupin said, you must maintain pristine water conditions + daily water changes or they could very well be stunted.

Young discus less than 4 inches in diameter are more sensitive and high maintenance than adults. You'll need to maintain very clean water or risk stunting them.
