The salt and pepper substrate is kind of a cool effect. Is that 2 different kinds of sand?

Nope it is the same substrate sand. I bought it from some place called petsolutions.com, it is called Eco complete cichlid sand. It is for african rift lake cichlids, it comes with live water in the bag that balances the ph and neutralizes the nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia.

Guppies and snails with cichlids? Not the best combo. But the aquascape looks nice.
