Can this really be done? It's pretty crazy, but I'm sure it's just photoshopped.

Nope, it's not photoshopped. Some company in Europe makes it. It's several thousand $$ though... Otherwise, I would so have one. :D

I thought I had saved the website, but I can't find it now... I don't remember how many gallons it is, but it's more than you'd think.

The water from the top tanks would pour out into the bottom tanks (I would think).

this is true, but the bottom tanks have no "open" top so the water would not leak out.

the article i read on the tanks said he has to drain the top tanks and take it apart to clean and then put it back togeather and fill.

i would like to know what kind of filter he uses.

How do you clean the algae off the sides??? I don't really see a magnet scrubber working so well for that :)

You can see bubbles in the tank at the top, I bet they are using the self contained fileter systems - I'll try to find a link, the goldfish bowl has a cylinder that runs down the center and filters the water all internally. It's interesting.

While searching one night I found a web site that designs things like this. It was amazing! They ranged from something like this to 3 tanks that were attached by clear plexi glass tubes, one tank on each side of the fireplace. The tube went up, over and down. It was very cool!!
