Brian's five day old fry.

Its been five days since I first posted "eggs hatched" with pictures of my Convict fry. Today about 3:00, thay started swimming on their own. Now over half are free swimming and out of the clay pot and exploring their new world. I did my best to capture them in these pictures, but they are transparent and they blend right in with the exposed glass bottom. If you look in front of the clay pot in the open space there was about 10 fry swimming around. They are about as long as a pencil eraser.
I sat there and waited for an hour until the first ones ventured out of their clay pot. ---------finally my work has paid of again-------
--enjoy

Here you can see them starting to leave and swim around.

The group in the back are still trying to get their bearings.

They first swim up to the top of the pot, then go back down and then strait out.I've watched them, Its quite interesting.

This was after momma grabbed up a mouth full and spit them back into the pot, so when I snapped this picture, half where already taken outta frame.

Its a little fuzzy, but if you look under momma, there are fry swimming around. Now,when I get close to the tank, like to take a picture, She quickly sucks them up and spittes them back in the pot.
:D

I will continue to keep the forum posted on their development . I really enjoy raising and watching fry grow and for me, watching them is a great stress reliever after a long day of work.It never gets old or boring.

Those are great pictures. I can't believe you waited an hour for them to come out so you could take the pics. ;) I didn't realize the mom would grab them and spit them back in the pot. That must have been nice to see. Thanks again for sharing pics!

Thanks again for sharing your pictures. They are great and it's neat to read about their behavior! I'm definitely going to have to look into getting Convicts some day. Now I know who to ask for advice!

I agree that watching fish is a good way to relax after working hard all day. I can see myself sitting there watching them for an hour too. Heck, I've done that before!

Keep up the good work. :D

today they had their first solid food. I put two shrimp pellets in there for mom, and because they dissolve in a few minutes, I noticed a swarm of fry attacking the pellets like mice on cheese :D
Can you spot the fry?

Sorry about the poor focus,My camera is an old cyber shot.I am surprised they came out this good,It is difficult to see the fry. They are almost clear and formed in a school in center frame.

They are 6 days old today.I keep picture records of the fry every week. So after a month, I will post the consecutive growth rates of them during their first month.

see-ya :)
