The Battle has begun in the Puffer tank

Yesterday I got tired of the brown slimy ugly stuff that kept getting on my Water Sprite.
I took all but two small pieces of the plant out of the tank yesterday. It was covered in this stuff on on top of the leaves. On the bottom and on the roots it was covered in this stuff

Not sure if you can see it or not but its the brown stringy nasty stuff??? I have no clue what it this stuff is but I am thinking its from something in the tank be it too much organics breaking down, maybe not enough movement, Hell maybe from not cleaning the tank properly... I always vacuum the substrate and do a 50% water change every week. Maybe I was missing something.
That something I think is this one piece of driftwood

It has turned kinda soft and I think it is breaking down too much and fowling the tank. I could be wrong I dont know either way its out. So time will tell.
I do know I made that stuff made and it went all over the tank when I took out the driftwood and Water sprite. I had to siphon out the tank 2x last night when I was doing a water change. I also removed my Tiger Lotus as the leaves of it were nasty from the "stuff" and were falling apart. Well at least the ones that were floating. It had about 3-4 leaves that hadn't made it to the surface yet but yeah I don't know I think it was just surviving in my tank as I think it wasn't getting the right nutrients and or lighting it really needs to look soo pretty like I see it others tanks. Soo goodbye to that plant. Then I took all the rest of the plants and wiped them off with my fingers and rinsed them off in hot tap water. Yeah I know Drastic reaction on my part but the "Stuff" HAD TO GO!!
I don't know how to battle the stuff other then getting all of it out that I can.
So after all that I ended up with something like this

Yeah I know kinda sad looking now. I just noticed how much it needs background plants. Something more the few stems of Anacharis that I have there. Though I do think it will look better one the Water Sprite regrows and puts down some roots.

The Dwarf Sag is growing more as I found 2 more plants. Yay

My C. Nevillii has started to grow a lil in this tank...

This is a bad shot but the best I could get of the C. Tropica in this tank...

This pics shows a piece of driftwood covered in Anubia and Java fern. You can also see another Cyrpt.

This is the last two pieces of Water sprite I have in this tank....

Really sad I know LoL

That's my Puffer tank now........

Betta and Badis Tanks

Soo I told ya about the Puffer tank already soo lets talk about the other 2 tanks now

Up first is my Badis tank

Not much as changed in this tank.. I think some the Crypts have grown a couple of leaves but honestly I can't tell...
The main thing that has changed is I swapped out the rocks in this tank. I am convinced that they were messing with my PH. Sooo out they went. I now have these in there

A close up of the rock. I bought 2 of these at my LFS for $3. The other one is under the driftwood holding it up. LoL

My male Badis saying hi.

I wished I knew what to do for is tail but at the same time he doesnt seem to mind nor does it seem to bother him. He also doesn't seem to have any problems swimming around cause he chases my female round like crazy! He also has become more comfortable in the tank. I can now get him to come out and eat out a pipette while I am holding it. The female is getting the same way.

My lil crypt wendtii that is growing back slowly

My crypt Nevillii in this tank

Soo yeah still pretty much the same as always..

Next up is the Betta tank..

Not much has changed here either.
The crypt in front there is growing awesomely. Its one that I bought at Petco when I first setup the tank. It never melted not even a lil. It did seem not to grow at first then it seemed to double over night. Now If I could get the others to do the same..
IF you look close in the pic you can see abunch of white spots on the glass...
Here is a close up...

Those are baby snails..... I believe they are baby Apple snails as they are not baby Bladder snails.
The two Apple snails have laid eggs about twice now and I always ended up knocking them down and breaking them on accident. I never even knew there was another batch in the tank.
My pretty white betta isn't white anymore!!!

Ohhh and if you look at the back of the tank in this pic you can see the baby apple snails and a bladder snail and can tell the are different. This is why I think they are baby apple snails. Either way I have LOTS of them. I counted like 20 in spot and thats not all in the tank. What do you do with sooo many babies??!!???

Wow, what an update! LOVE photo bombs ;)

Overall, sounds like things are going well! The tanks ALL look good!

I'm really sad about the hit your plants took. . . the poor Puffer's tank has had a rough couple of months - you always manage to put it back together beautifully, great work! Hopefully everything will bounce back quickly now that the wood is gone. . .

The Badis tank is pretty, I just love those lil' guys. His tail is a curious thing, but as long as it isn't bothering him *shrugs* Glad to hear that they're coming around and losing their shyness around you. It's always so wonderful when skittish fish begin to trust. Makes me happy. . .

I the touch of color on the Betta, but I know how excited you were that he was all white. :/ Maybe bleach? (KIDDING!) My c. wendtii has done that before - it seems to go about 3 months after being moved with no growth, and just when I start to get nervous - it goes crazy! Wonder if it's a 'thing' with them? Baby apple snails are amazingly cute!!! If you have the space to let them grow out, I'm sure you can sell them or give them away! Everybody loves Apple snails. And if not? . . . well. . . you DO have a Puffer!

Your tanks are looking great! Glad to see the Badis out and about. They are so tiny and so pretty!

I've actually noticed something similar to your brown slim in my snail bowls. It does seem to be a product of decay. The only thing I've been able to do for it is remove it when I notice it. Maybe just get rid of the water sprite all together. I know you've complained about it before.

Oh and... shoulda warned you... Bettas are apt to change color when they are brought home from the store! ;)

The Puffer tank has gone through a lot and I can't help but wonder if I cause most of it?? I am hoping things grow back/in wonderfully.

I think the badis tank is looking good myself and can't wait till the plants grow and fill in the "holes". His tail bugs me but it doesn't seem to big him. So I decided to just leave it be and let whats going to happen just happen.

Ohh Bleach hmmm...... LoL yeah that might just work. Wonder how much I would have to dilute it to make it safe and still bleach him back to white. Though I don't really mind too much about him changing colors just wished he would have picked a different color other then pink!?!!

I originally got the Apple snails soo I could feed the babies to my puffer but nit sure if he can get to them cause they have trap doors. I didn't realize that until after I got the snails. Hmmm wonder if I can get store credit for them???

Tanks are looking good! You're just too hard on yourself.

Is the male badis the one with the spot on his tail? I'm not sure if I ever told you, but one of mine has that and has since I got it. It's never spread and doesn't seem to affect her so i haven't worried. No problems in the 6 months I've had her.

If the water sprite has problems again I can send you some floaters if you like. I have more than enough believe me.

Yeah that's a fault of mine... am always too hard on myself.

Yes that's my male Badis with the deformed tail. When I first got him hes tail was fine and shortly after that spot started to form.

I might take you up on that as you have floating plants that I haven't had before but that reminds me I think I got a different form of water sprite and this

What is that??? I got both of those for free! LoL
The worker at the store gave them to me for whatever reason I don't know but I was going to complain.

I Dunno what it is!! I though maybe Riccia Fluitans but honesty don't know. All I was suppose to get was 2 different species of Water sprite or what I was told was a different species. That other stuff was a stole away and a bonus. I don't know of them even selling Riccia there...So yeah have no clue. I kinda hope it is Riccia as I have always wanted to get some and try it. If it is Riccia it can float right?
