Soo freaking excited (cough cough sniff)!!!

I am going to go check the parameters on the tank and see what the numbers are doing.

Sooo I tested my numbers and didn't exactly get the numbers I was hoping for....

The first time I tested Ammonia I got 2ppm YES 2! At this point I am screaming and cursing out right!!
So I stop for a min and think that simply can not be, it just can't be!! So I tested the ammonia again and get .25ppm Okay so thats more believable since that's the amount I have in my tap water to begin with.
Nitrites 0
Nitrates looks to between 0-5ppm

So now if the plants were doing their thing the .25 ammonia shouldn't be there today BUT I don't know if I added too much mulm from my sponge and obviously don't have enough bacteria to handle the ammonia or what.
So I plan to do a water change today and get out the extra mulm/debris that I can get and then I will check the numbers tomorrow before adding the fish. IF the ammonia is still there I will do another water change before adding the fish. Oh just in case you were wondering yes I have a conditioner that handles ammonia during water changes. NO its not Prime. LoL
I might also add the plants in thats in my QT Plant tank in there before adding the fish tomorrow if the Ammonia is still there. I don't know am still debuting that one.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

So I decided to make a new filter for this QT tank. I wanted to make doubly sure that I had some bacteria in there and wasn't thinking I had enough. So I took some media from my canister that runs on my puffer tank and made a filter.

It doesn't look the greatest but it should serve the purpose I was after.

I also threw in some water sprite from my Betta tank as I had extra there.

I retested the ammonia and the nitrates in QT tank just to see what I get now. I know its kinda pointless after a water changes but its been a couple of hours now and I just wanted to see. Also Jes pointed out something I have never done nor thought about doing and that is washing out the test tubes with soap!!

So the numbers I got now are Ammonia 0, Nitrates 5!!!

I think I am ready for my fish to show up tomorrow (They better show up!!)!!!

Tank is looking nice. Not just for a QT, but for a tank. With fish that small you won't have to worry about much ammonia, provided you don't overfeed too much.

Founding the amount that works for a group of such small fish is something I am going to have to figure out. So I might overfeed at first but it won't be on purpose that's for sure.

Lovely, lovey news!!! I'm so happy things are looking so fabulous for your new arrivals! Sorry I was mostly absent yesterday, sick babies :(

From what I've seen on TFK, most people don't seem to clean their test tubes, aside from a rinse in tap-water. I never did it until I came up with tests that didn't make any sense because of chemical residue in the tubes. Now I've made it a habit to clean them after each use. . .it at least eliminates one possible explanation!

I hear ya! Feeding new arrivals always takes a bit to get the hang of - more bacteria for JIC is always better, I think! It'll be fun for you to find the balance between the Badis, Cories, and . . . whatever. . . fish?. . . you're getting today, too. I always have fun feeding my tank between the greedy Tetra at the surface, who are way easy to overfeed, the frog, and all the bottom dwellers! It always takes me a minute to figure out a new system that works for everyone when I add new fish. At least you'll become super familiar with the newbies' needs while they hang in QT!

I'm glad, really glad, that somewhere between cleaning tubes, adding media, and more plants that everything is looking exactly as perfect as can be! I AM ENTIRELY TOO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! I hope everything comes together beautifully this afternoon, and the new babies arrive safe and sound!!!
