The tank does look great! I agree with you that the fish might just be settling in. They're notoriously shy little guys, so it's probably not uncommon for them to refuse to eat for a day or three while they settle in, and probably nothing to worry about (I hope). Good luck with the feeding today - and you'll have to let us know how the cultures go. I've always wanted to try growing my own live food, lol!

Haha my daughter was there and we had to put them back in front. I learned my lesson last time about trying to remove them so I didn't even try this time.

I still need some plants in the front and on the side where that heater is. I also want to get rid of that ridiculously huge heater and get one for thats the right size for the 10. To me its an eye sore!

I have been wanting to try my hands at live food cultures for awhile now. Just never really had the ambition to do them. LoL this lil guys have kinda made me!
Last night I went out and bought all the supplies that I need well minus away to harvest the Vinegar Eels. I still need a bottle for that. I also bought some note books so I could keep a running log on them. Oh which minds me I need some more as I didn't buy enough lol. I stole 2 for my tanks. I have always meant to buy some for the tanks too. My memory sucks! LoL This way I know when I added what and for sure know when to replace stuff.

Well I just tried to feed them some live blackworms. The male attacked them!
One female just looked at them and took a nibble. The other 2 I can't find. LoL I know their are in there I saw them. They are hiding and I can't target feed them with Turkey baster. I threw a few pellets of NLS in there the male stared at it and swam away. I am going to check the water parameters and write them down then try a few more foods.
The Turkey baster is great. I should have gotten one a long time ago. Any unbeaten food I can just suck it up with it and I don't have to worry about it fouling the water. I don't suck all of it up as I want some in there incase they want to pick at it and the snails will eat some of it too.

NH3= .25 This frustrates me cause I always have. 25 in my tanks. I have no clue why??
N02= .00
N03= 10-20

I am going to test my puffer tank in a min along with my tab water again for NH3.
Is .25 a huge deal?? I have always heard as long as it wasnt above that it is okay.
I plan on checking them again tomorrow and if the lvls are the same will do a small water change.

Well crap that explains it. My Tab water has between. 25-.50 NH3!
So I will start using Prime for now on as my water conditioner.

Really happy to hear that at least one of them is eating! I'm sure the other will come around soon - she's probably just settling in still.

It's TERRIBLE that it's coming from your tapwater! Ug. I've found that we get nitrates in our tapwater during certain times of the year - like in the spring when everyone is ferting their gardens, and we get a lot of rain, but never had traces of ammonia or nitrites *knocks on wood* Prime, when dosed at 5x the normal strength will bind it, but only for a short time - 24 to 48 hours, and if you want plants you need ferts, so that won't work long-term. I think any amount is detrimental to the animals, though obviously in lower amounts it isn't *AS* terrible - it's still not okay. You might want to look into duckweed again - I know it's a PITA, but there is nothing better for removing toxins from water. Maybe just keep it contained in a net or something, so it doesn't clog your filters, but still cleans the water for the fish? I wonder if contacting the water people would do you any good? Probably not . . .

Spongebob looks cute in the position of honor! I'm sure your daughter enjoys it there.

Great to hear the male ate some worms! Looks like live food did the trick! Now let's hope he colors up beautifully with it.

Sorry that you have ammonia in your tap water now. Hopefully the prime and large amount of plants you have will take care of it for you. Maybe that was causing your female badis to hide.

Wait a min at 5x the normal strength?? Like 5x the normal amount for a given tank size?? HOLY CRAP!
I thought the normal dose would detoxify it for 24-48 hours?

On a different note Puffer tank parameters are as follows:
NH3= .0-.25 (yeah less them my 10 gallon??)
NO2=0
N03= 5-10 (There again less.)

So whats the difference?? The amount of water, the plants and filters. My thinking here is I need faster going plants and more of them. I have a sponge filter on my 10 maybe I need a different type of filter as well? Yeah Duckweed is a PITA plant. I HATE IT!!!!

Maybe I dunno but I am going to check the lvls again tomorrow and I also plan on getting some Prime too.
If the lvl is still high I will do a small wc and add Prime.
