Hi Oceane,
I had a wipeout of rummies and neons so only one rummy left. I won't buy any more rummies for the time being. I don't want another wipeout which commonly hits the rainbows and tetras.
I do better with rams, angels and other cichlids. Been keeping Malawi and Tangs but I'm bored to death over those two African cichlids.:D

Hi Joe, not overstocked.
The point being their size is 4-5 cm. Neither are they big poopers. They eat less. I'd hate the goldfish if they are in my tank.

how golden Golden Pencilfish do u think would fit in a 20 gallon with 5 corys and and some tetras?
Hi Joe, about 6-8 pencilfish will do. But that depends on how many tetras you have there.

Brie: about 60-70 gallons.

Lovely tank Blue, i specially like your Rams, i've never been able to keep one they die on me...
Oceane, may I ask what rams were you keeping? German Blue Rams or Bolivian Rams?

German species are quite sensitive to poor water quality. They may need a tank which has established for about 4 months or more. There are also rams called Czech Rams. They are still the same as the German Blue Rams except that those rams were bred from Czech Republic.

Bolivians are larger than their cousins. They originated from Venezuela. Bolivians are suitable for beginners as long as the tank has cycled.

By the way, I snag several pics of my angelfish and clearer pics of the blue ram so expect the blue ram pics to be posted especially in Freshwater Species section for reference.

I tried Blue Rams they are the only ones we can get locally. They were in my angel tank and i don't think that was the problem as the angels didn't seem to bother them much. The tank had been set up for at least 5 months when i added them. I had the same wipe out problem as you did with both rummy nose and tetras, i think it may be because i thought that as they were so tiny i could add 6 in one go, didn't work.

Sad coincidence. I had a wipeout on 13 rummies, 11 neons and 11 cories. The rest survived. Some died due to bacterial infections. Some eliminated by the blue ram as they weakened.
To be honest, the blue ram killed the remaining tetras which have survived but have weakened. He can kill anyone he sees being pathetic.
To compensate for those deaths, I'm planning 4 discus(the last fish I'll add). 8 angelfish are in my tank now.
Everything's now fine, mate, so I can now relax after weeks of being worried.

Will buy another tank soon and housed some altums if available. If not, I'll go with Puntius denisonii.

P.S. I finally snag several pics of angels and blue ram. Expect them soon.

Need some advice from you as you seem very familiar with rams: i found some golden rams in a fish shop is there any way to sex them as juveniles? I'm thinking of moving my mollies and platies to a smaller tank and leaving the 55 gals for angels and a few rams. If i just fill the small tank with water from the big one and use a filter from another tank, will the small tank need to go through any cycle or can i just move the fish to it? :?:

You need to cycle any new tank. However, no need to do that if you have filter media from an established tank. Just squeeze the gunk in the filter media to the new one and it will be ready for the fish. Just add the fish gradually.
Sexing blue rams as juveniles isn't easy. Females have pink bellies whereas males don't.

Hi llaustin,
Here are the pics of my green arowana:

He's only 5-6 inches.

Wow! Very beautiful, there sure a lot of fish in there. I had not heard of a 'ram', nor a pencilfish. When I first started reading the replies, I was thinking "needle fish", and was horrified because needle fish eat live food and you have those little tetras in there! (lol) thank you for sharing the amazing photographs. The live plants are gorgeous too.

Thanks, blue gourami. Not sure if you are thinking of pencilfish being "needle fish".:D

Will post my angelfish pics later due to power outage 3 hours ago.

Thanks, llaustin. I tried my best to feed him all the foods available but so far, he likes only bloodworms and live fish. What a picky eater.

She does look like a ghost shrimp. Still can't id it properly. She originated from the local river.:D hehe...
Thanks for the comment.
