Makes me wonder if that little type is captive bred. There seems to be a difference in the temperament of wild versus caught with these darlings.
a foot?? Thats . like. FOREVER.. from now. I hope I can tell earlier otherwise it's just going to be whatever gender I choose for it lol.

So the store called me asking if I had any requests for their order this week..and I asked them more about my bichir. They contacted their customer who gave it to them. So my darling Beeeeasch was in fact bred by a wild caught pair that he owns. He said his were a bit older then mine was at purchase but not too much and his were very shy for a while and he was happy to see(I sent the video to the store owner) and a bit shocked how not shy and social mine is. So Yes, I guess there are behavior differences as mine was captive bred... but bred by wilds. Or could just be environment or just this particular fish's behavior. He told the store that his male is much more social and quirky then his female.

Really cool that you were able to get the info on where your baby came from! I was wondering about that, too - your Bicher, and Jaysee's seem to be so outgoing compared to others I've seen. Neat stuff! I say enjoy that forever time while they're little! Anyway, Baybay and Beeeash can go either way!!!

This is why I buy from them now. and nobody else unless they CAN'T get what I want. They are easy to get f1's from and no more pricey then watered down unsure petsmart/petco fish. Actually for me sometimes cheaper because the amount of tanks and $$ I've spent with them. I adore their willingness to contact breeders for me and even arrange at time for me to meet them.

Honestly this bichir took feeding from my hands gently within the first few days. And the original owner said he was hand feeding too. Both this baby and the parents. Sadly this was the only baby to survive the tank but they said the parents are very peaceful. I'l adore this babie phase as much as I'm sure I will the adult phase . I'll love it all. Just need to get that big tank by late Sept!
As far as social. Well I think I know why.

Yeah, they have to go through significant growth before you can really accurately tell.

Fry raised around people become more used to people. So even if the parent are a wild caught pair, the fry have a better feel for getting used to people.

Ahhh, Marie! Sounds like you have an AMAZING LFS! I'm so jealous! Happy for you, though.

I doubt I'll ever actually get to keep a Bichir, but I LOVE them. So I'm really glad that you, Jaysee, and Fox are always so willing to share pics and vids of these beauties for me to drool over. *luffs* Who knows, maybe one day. . . until then, I'll be enjoying this baby phase right along with you - only from over here. ^_^ Keep up the good work, girl!

these are pics I took a few days after I got back from vacation late last week and Baybay came up to me when I kneeled down at face to face level with him/her. Greeted my finger and was such a sweet interaction for a while 'till it decided to go back to it's "house". I love Baybay.... best fish I've ever owned!
(don't let the angle fool you. Baybay is a fat 6ish inches now)

hahaha. Thanks. I had a sparkly sand nail polish on.. figured was only appropriate to wear sand nail polish to the islands.
And yes I think my ornate s a super sweet fish. Comes up to my finger to say high even when there is no food around...but interestingly only does that if I am face level with it. Doesn't come to me if it can't see my face. However I don't think the fish/shrimp and dwarf crayfish it's murdered shared my feelings for Baybay

Is he really six inches already?!!! So cute and bitty!!
Interesting that he interacts with you only when he can see your face. . . very sweet for a little 'murderer.'
*WOOT* for glittery fingers and vacations!

. . . you think you could get some pics of him UNDERWATER with your new toy???

(I still have to catch up on pics taken with said toy, lol, oh myyyyyyy, so behind!)
