Everyone that I have spoken to personally on this and other forums has had nothing but positive reviews for Odyssea - they (currently) seem pretty well regarded as a decent light on a budget. . . that said, lower light is probably a good idea - and cheaper lighting means more to spend on funner things! ^__^

I can't wait for your woooooooood!!!

O.O I must have forgotten to read the fine print when I set up my 55! May have to think twice about the bigger tank, now that I know the consequences! >.<
All we have for the loachy club is imaginary decoder rings! Yikes!

Yeah, that's what I read on the planted tank forum as well Chesh. I only get into the bad reviews on 2 other forums and amazon. It's so conflicting.

I think home depot sells a T5 fixture that's like mine. I may have to go check it out and see what they have.

I have a great Odyssea light.. However I'm not using it at the moment . It's overkill but I've considered tossing it onto my African tank to see if I can grow algae with it. 12k lights ..8bulbs then led moonlights and cooling fans. I'll agree it's a very good make .

I've got a dual t5 on my 65 gallon tank.
I've always had a little green thread algae growing on a piece of driftwood that comes very close to the surface of the tank and therefore gets a lot of light.
I made the mistake of replacing the two 27 watt (Normal Output) lamps with 54 watt (High Output) lamps as the HO lamps were 1/2 the price of the NO lamps (Crazy, I know)
Almost instantly my tank was over-run with both green thread and black bush algae.
I would definitely look for Normal Output lamps for your tank.
I managed to find them at Petsmart, they're made by Aqueon and they are the only 27 watt 6500K lamps I could find anywhere.

It's just that review about the fire has gotten me so leery about it now.
I mean, everything has the possibility to malfunction and spark a fire. IDK.

I had hubby look up the fixture and he says I should take a chance. He says I am home almost all the time, so if anything happens, it shouldn't be too bad and we can always have my T8 fixture as back up should something ever do happen.
I am nervous, but willing to try it if he's game for it.

Okay, Bekah, someone told me to look into the Coralife fixtures because they're more realible than the Odyssea.
Here the link to one on Kensfish(nice little online shop I like) Coralife Freshwater Double Aqua T5 Strip

So I'll be doing some more digging into them.
