Yeah... if I HAD a fishroom, lol! Instead I have been tucking fish into every available corner! Gah, I'd love a fishroom - or maybe better yet, a fish garage/house - like Byron has! I'd move in, I think. . .forget the armchair, bring me a bed and a mini fridge! "Where's mom?" "She moved out, dear..."

That's exactly it, Izzy. . . I have PLACES to put them, but nowhere that I don't have to go out of my way to 'visit' them. In some cases, that's okay. Like the QT tank in my bedroom. But not for the rams - first, because I just love to look at them as I pass along on my daily routine, second because they look back, third - I don't want to miss any action!!! Not worth bothering to move them into a special tank if I don't get to enjoy the show! I don't want to be a breeder, and I don't really need any more Rams - but I have to see this saga play out!

I don't spend as much time anywhere else in the house, because it usually involves dragging handfuls of toddlers into uncharted areas - out here, they pile on and we ALL watch the tank. Becoming is in my dining room. So is my desk - and the living room and dining room are only separated by an archway, so. . . that tank is very much under constant observation.

My husband unburied a double tank stand somewhere in the basement. After all this time, lol! I've never had an *actual* fish stand. The thing is ugly metal and was in the house when we got here - probably a relic from the 70's! So at least now I have a THING that I can put, not one, but TWO tanks on - top and bottom. Big enough for the 29g. So that's exciting! Now I just have to figure out how to re-arrange my world to find a spot with a plug in the main area of the house. . . :)

The stupid thing is that I've finally gotten all of the other tanks shut down. I'm down to Becoming, Shimmer's 5g, and the 10g QT. ONLY to turn right around and set 'em right back up again! *bangshead* At least this time they'll be on a stand! That counts for something, right?!! lol...

I don't sit still long enough to make good use of a fish room. I'm moving through the house all day (when I'm there). I want to enjoy my tanks on the go. I know that if I have to make a point to go see them, I won't spend as much time with them as I do now.

A double-decker stand is a GREAT idea, Jes!!!!! I LOVE mine. It's just a 10 gal stand, but it doubles the amount of tanks I can have in the space one would normally sit. I can have my bettas on the top and my shrimp colony on the bottom. You could set up the rambabies in the top tank and your own shrimp colony on the bottom!!

You know what would be really awesome? A fish HALLWAY!! Put all of your tanks end to end in the most traveled hallway, and you get to see them every single time you walk down that hallway! Or better yet a hallway where the walls are fish tanks!! You could enjoy the fish are you rush down the hallway and in the rooms! (And I'm done dreaming lol).

Somehow I missed the update!
I almost cried reading about the resulting liplock and Liz's subsequent paling :( So sad, but I am glad that they 'got back together'. Fascinating behavior, I'm always so excited to read one of your updates, they're just as informative as a scientific update but with a bit more drama, haha.

I'm so happy you were able to get a video this time, I'd been so curious to see them 'in action' so to speak, ;) Too cool.

Izzy, that's my problem. . . even if I had a fish house, I'd have to make time to go there, and time. . . isn't. . . to be had except in very small bursts at the moment! That's why my tanks go on late in the afternoon and stay on until late at night - so I get some time to enjoy them without the kiddos :)

Jen, you're so sweet! I'm really happy that you like my over-emotional updates and crappy vids, lol! Granted, I humanize my fish. . . can't help it! But. . . the Livvies really just beg for it, if you kept them, you'd know. They're so . . . THEM, lol! Definitely smart fish with loads of personality. I actually have a video somewhere that I took when it looked like C.Cat was courting Hattie - would you like me to dig it up? The courting ritual is the only part of the routine that I haven't posted yet - we can just ignore the fact that it's the wrong 'lady,' neh?

Random, just looking over the new 'Bean profile on SF, they put some info in there based on my experiences. . . like about the cichlids. Really cool! I hope it helps other people out there, because it's very hard to find info on the little Beaners. . . gotta get a profile up here for them, too!

I'd love it you were able to post a video of that! :D Also, have you ever posted pictures somewhere of each Ram? I'm so fascinated that you can tell them all apart, :)

Did they switch territories after C.Cat and Liz spawned again? I remember you mentioning Hattie and C.Cat were sleeping next to each other...

That's so cool, you're living up to that 'expert on aquatic environments' title, neh? ;)

HAHA! Noooooo. . . nowhere remotely resembling that title, I'm afraid.

I do have side-by-side comparisons from when I first got the original four - on the post about C.Cat being sick. Little Jab wasn't with me then, though. It isn't difficult to tell them apart at all - their markings are unique, and they each have their own distinct personalities. I've been meaning to get some current shots of them and do a new side-by-side. . . cast of characters kind of thing, lol.

Their territories never exactly changed, just that C.Cat was allowing Hattie to hang with him and sleep with him. He's back with Liz now, so over the last weekend and such, yeah - they did kind of sleep side-by side and forage together - along with cleaning rocks, lip-locking (there are many reasons to lock lips, lol) and showing off in general. Now that they've done the deed, they've kind of gone their separate ways again, but they do seem more tolerant of each-other in their 'spots.' Not that ANY of them have ever been really aggressive toward one-another regarding territory to begin with. . . Liz and Hattie, on the other hand. . . heh. They've been battling it out a bit - but again, they've ALWAYS done that. The spot of dominant female has flipped back and forth between the two of them since day one. Hattie used to be on top, but something happened over the last few months - before the spawnings - to put Liz at #1, and she's not letting it go easily!

Okay. . .to do list:
Updated full tank shots/vid
Ram comparison/gender
pre-spawning vid. . .

I'll work on it!

Video update. . .

Got some video of the 55g last night! It's way too long, as usual, but everyone was being so darn cute. . . I couldn't help myself!

Got some tank shots, too. . .but my computer is yelling at me to clear out some space before I can offload them from the card. Again. I really have to spend a few hours and clean up my photo files, I take entirely too many pictures of my (human) children!

Enjoy!
