I'm NOT ready for the challenge of breeding anything that doesn't breed itself without help, but thanks for getting me the link! I'll definitely check out that link tomorrow. Very interested in what it has to say...

It IS a shame that it's the worst shop ever. Especially since we had a couple of really AMAZING LFS that went out of business within the last year. Honestly, the BEST place for me to shop right now is PetSmart. How SAD is that?! At least THEY don't stock and sell tattooed fish and have Blackbeard algae covering the walls of their dirty tanks. Ug.

Waiting to see what they do in my tank is a very good plan, and don't worry! Even if they're sold out by then, you'll find another type of fish that captures you and is amazing! PLUS, need I point out that YOU have a shop that can actually order in normal Kuhli Loaches! I'm jealous! I've been looking for them for almost a year now - and STILL haven't found any, lol! That's just ridiculous!!!

I DO have some really cool fish in my tank(s). I love them all so much! I'm pretty much convinced that ALL fish are amazing in their own ways, and love learning about different types and why they are the way they are - fish are just neat! *D O R K* But I'm jealous of YOU and your locally wild-caught plants, so we're even!

Yeah, we used to have some awesome fish stores AND, believe it or not, pet shops. Knew the owner of the pet shop. He would not stock anything like that and kept the place nice and clean. He even got puppies and kittens from proper breeders or rescued from shelters occasionally. He didn't get shut down, he retired. He'd owned that shop for...oh, I dunno, over fifty years I think. The two bum kids that took over the shop ruined it so bad it was shut down within four years. c.c;
Most of our good shops went out of business due to the economy, or due to people that don't do any kind of research before buying fish, and they just don't look for good, just cheap. =( That's the problem these days. I call it laziness, it's not the economy. xD Ah, I miss that old shop!

And hey, speaking of breeding...be careful you don't end up like I did with the loaches. lol How many did I have again? Like fifty? ^^; I finally got them all out, and now I miss them. =( But I just don't have a place they would be happy in anymore. My frogs would probably eat them and my betta would pick at them.

Speaking of betta, I got a sorority started. Although I think one of my females was a mislabeled young male. >_>; If so, that's gonna be a biiiig uhoh. I can't tell, but I think it is. lol And taking it back to that hole....no way. Absolutely no way. You should look at my rescue betta thread.

Oh MAN!!! I posted a video and a book last night at, like, 3am - but it's not here!!! *cries* WHAT HAPPENED!? Goodness, I hope I didn't post it on someone else's thread! I was half-asleep. . . O.o If I DID, I'm totally sorry!!! If NOT, I'm super grumpy that it vanished! *pouts* I'll re-post it. . . in a bit. . . after I recover from the sadness of losing an entire book (and check my post-history, lol!)

Sylver, I'll be sure to check out your thread, and congrats on the sorority - whoops on the male.

You hit the nail on the head about fish shops. TWO of ours were owned by amazing older people who had kept their shop for years, but when they retired and sold the shops, the new owners were going for the money, and didn't have a passion for fish-keeping, so their tanks slowly went downhill, and they lost their good customers. The 3rd shop - and the best I've ever been to - just couldn't compete with PetSmart and PetCo, so they closed their doors. The owner is hoping to reopen at some point in the future, I really hope he does!

Don't you worry, girl - I didn't forget about your loaches. I'd be thrilled to have mine breed, but I'm not holding my breath! It'd be really cool if they did, though with the size of the black loaches as babies in your tank, can you IMAGINE how tiny the dwarfs must be?! Like this big: ~ AWWWW! Very cute, but trying to find and catch them would be even more of a nightmare!

Smile Video update. . .

I posted this update last night, along with a book (of course) but for some reason it. . . isn't. . . here. This likely has something to do with the fact that it was around 3 am, and I was drop-dead exhausted, lol.

Anyway, here's a video taken yesterday of Becoming in all her current glory. Sorry it's so long, I tried to trim it down, I really did - but every time I was about to hit the 'crop' button, a loach would cruise in, or all of the rams would gather together in the shot. . . so instead of making it shorter, I just put the best part in the beginning. That way, if you get bored after a minute or so, you can stop watching with no worries that you've missed anything.

Once again, I apologize that my videos aren't that great. My camera doesn't really do well with tank videos. The vibrancy of color is all but lost, and it has a very narrow range of focus, so I can't really get good close-up shots. I prefer photographs for detail, but post the videos because you really have to see a tank in action to really get a feel for the environment. Nothing compares to the grace and beauty of a fish/tank in motion. . .

I'll try to get some updated photos for you guys tonight after the girls are in bed. SO proud of myself for all the updates - thanks for caring enough to ask for updates and keeping me on track! After the tank progress photos, I have two updates to get through before I can consider this thread up-to-date. One all about my lovely little Jelly Beans, and another about the tank's new resident!

Well, my babies burrowed. So did many of the parents, I imagine that is how they thrived. Some loaches just don't do that. lol I really miss watching those little squiggly lines in the sand move around. At first I was creeped out about it. Thinking all TREMORS ZOMG! But then I found it cool, and they left interesting designs in my tank sand. lol

Ha, yeah. I would love to make a little fish shop. Of course I'd need a great deal more knowledge first, but I'd really love to make a little shop of my own. I love my fish as is, so having a shop with so many tanks...oh yeah, my own little paradise. Especially for bettas. I've really gotten into that! I'd probably have a whole isle for them with proper tanks, or two or three, and maybe even put a few sororities together for people who have trouble making it happen IF I find out I can manage that and caring for the shop and customers...I probably could, I'm great at multitasking and would fully be willing to stay a few nights to keep eyes on them. I'd probably live there. LOL And not ever would you see a tank smaller than 5 gallons in my shop! Unless I have some for raising things like brine shrimp and the like. lol And it'd be stated as much. Maybe a little section with fish books as well. And of course, you just know I'm going to have a place for livebearers. ^_~ Probably loaches and gourami's too. I'd probably be the only shop in town with female gouramis. xD Most shops don't get them because they sell very slowly, but that's fine because I'd love to watch and care for them until they get proper homes! I imagine having proper betta tanks with betta happily comfortable in them would draw a great deal of attention by itself. At least I'd hope so, it'd be great to share knowledge and even learn a bit more at the same time. I'm trying not to let my passion and dreams get ahead of me, but sometimes I can't help spouting out what I wish I could do. lol And some people like to slap me back to reality. x.x; Eh, maybe I need it sometimes, that stuff is hard work, and losing a shop means suffering fish! But the possibilities of having a prospering shop...I'm not sure if it outweighs the risks.

Well now, I certainly hope my female isn't actually a male. But when it comes to the females or female-like bettas, this is my first time owning girls! So it's not what I'd call easy to tell. I may be trying to help, but I am still learning. I doubt I'll ever stop learning...I certainly hope not anyways. I don't think she really is a boy, she's sure not acting like any male I've ever had, and I've owned many male bettas since I was a child, but during my late teen years, I wasn't around to have fish! I sure miss that. And my little Draco who lived to be eight. :3 I had him since I was...oh, four or five I think until I was in my first year of High School I think. Miss him.

Hey, have you updated your Kindtertank thread lately? =o I'm dying to know how everyone is doing and about the kids too! And have you brought them home yet, I think you said something about taking them home at the end of the year, yes? If you did, are they doing well at your home tank? :3

That is sad :( I would be so upset having to go to Petsmart for all my fishies. I remember you mentioning tattooed fish before, but what exactly is that?? I've honestly never heard of fish being tattooed...I know they tattoo dogs at the shelter after the neuter/spay them (it's just a small green line on their belly), but I have a feeling it's for decorative purposes on fish :/ That's so barbaric sounding.

I am so flipping jealous of that driftwood! Ugh it's so gorgeous. (You know, normal women would be saying this about shoes/clothes...)

And those Rams are beautiful...I love how serene they look. And your loaches of course have to be getting in the shot, they can't resist some face-time ;p

And Sylver, me too! I really wish I could have my own shop. I wouldn't even mind if it's a tiny hole in the wall, it would be gorgeous and clean and CLEAN and clean. I know someone who owns a shop up in Tallahassee though, and she's super rich and just does it for fun and has lost a ton of money. That would be my biggest fear, they don't seem to make much revenue...And I would totally have my house above the shop :p

Well, even if I didn't make as much as I spent, at least I'd know I have a good shop and more to add to my own love. lol Afterall, you DO spend when you get pet fish. =p

As for tattoos, it's when they actually make a design on the fish. Like a tattoo on a person, not a vet mark on an animal. It's purely for people to look at and not fun for the fish, kinda like putting chicken eggs in dye so you have colorful babies at the risk of them drowning. -shakes head- It's not a very nice thing to do, although I don't think they use needles like with people...not sure on that part.

You're right. Nothing compares to a fish tank in motion. That's why I'm so bummed my camera takes horrid videos. Grainy and out of focus grade A crap.

I have a question about your plants! I love the tall, thin-leaved ones. What is that tall, thin one in the first 1:40 of the video? The one that the rams are playing around near?

Also squiggles!!! ^-^ They are so cute!

Awwww, Koi! I can't imagine that your camera takes worse video than mine, but I'd still love to watch a vid of your tank if you ever take one! Do it!!! PULEEZE!?? The sad thing is that most people's PHONES take better video than my camera, lol!

I'm not sure what plant you're talking about, but 'tall, thin-leaved' makes me think you're referring to my cryptocoryne spiralis? Under higher lighting the stuff gets all spirally and ruffled, but in the lower light it just grows like floopy grass. I really love this plant - I love both of my Crypts, and they seem to be happy in my tank with my low lighting, so yay! If that's not the plant you're referring to, let me know - I'll figure out what you mean. . .

Tried to get some shots last night, but failed epically. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow!

I am beyond positive I take worse pics and videos than any of you...and I have the nerve to share them. xD Anyone who has seen them can attest to that! If anything, I think the ones Chesh has shown us have been rather clear and good. o-o; Maybe I'm just used to the garbage I take and put up and I just don't see anything that others do. Especially when it's your own stuff, you notice things other people don't even look at. lol
Although occasionally I get a good one, they're usually a little smeary...crooked, or have stupid reflection in the way. And I have nerve problems, as I've said already...ahem, so I have trouble holding things still, my videos usually come up shaky. ^^;
