We are soon going to start the beginning phase of the 240g ! Finally
I'm going to be painting the wood like trim either black or deep brown and the stand as well . That should be fun .. *hands paint to Jaysee * ;-)
So here it is .. Haven't even moved it out of the previous owners house lol. But he's really nice and doesn't mind. In fact offered to assist moving it ! He just wants to drool over my fish .. ( he will be here on TFK soon to share his amazing array of previous fish !)
So here's out new tank.. I might have to dive in to do the planting in this beast .. Hopefully I still have my snorkeling goggles lol
Will put all the fish from the 75 in there for now till Josh moves and the tank merging madness begins .
I want 10x turnover rate so umm.. Thank god we both have lots of filters . I know I'll put my XP 4 on this tank.. Perhaps one of my AC 110s for a bit then eventually a few other canisters .. Oh and that XP in the picture as well.. It's a bit small though. I'll get maybe another SunSun 304 or 2 of them.
Here are some of the fish going in at first . Then we need to brainstorm the final stocking .. Many ideas bouncing around
Of course Baybay my ornate bichir who thinks he's an itty bitty pleco . After much practice he's learned how to sit on the glass like his clown pleco BFF haha
The new tiger pleco
And of course my daughter wouldn't allow me to do much of anything when she set up the QT for the tiger pleco . She really did everything except turn the faucet on to fill it.. Because she couldn't reach . Mini slaves are great!!
Plants !! I'll be moving these over when I finally get the tank set up .
Pretty sure I'll have to use media from every single filter in this house to properly seed this tank lol
I'm wiping up the drool from my keyboard as I type. That is going to be amazing! So how many total tanks are you two going to end up with after the merge?
I can't even say how many tanks .. But I feel like last time I added it up it was 900ish gallons . You guys just wait till we move to a bigger place !! Whatever you think we will do .. I bet it will be more. We are very supportive of each other's "habits" haha
Oh the gallon estimate doesn't include my dragon tanks . Only the aquatic ones and not the QT tanks either
With the python and pump it's really not bad . Just means 2 glasses of wine not one while I wait lol. I change water 50-80% every 1-2 weeks except in the late summer when I'm vacationing .
Anything over 50g I'd on that schedule and the little tanks when I get around to it. Honestly my nano tank and my gudgeons grow out tank are more a pain then the largest tank.. Little fish and have to sit with the tank while they drain.
I already have my daughter doing the dragon feedings mostly their baths feeding and walking the dog too . I'm aiming towards both kids learning to do water changes within a yr. I'm much more anal about water changes then Jaysee hahaa .. I like sparkling perfect water. He can cook to make up for me doing the tank maintenance ;-)
I'll not let the kids do the African tank though.. Gotta play chemist with that one .
Oops . I left the word "not" out.. Thats if we dont include the QT i always leave up.
We could add that and all the QT tanks in my storage closet .. And we could get carried away with numbers and add all the dragon tanks too ;-) .. I coudnt really even add it up as i'm not sure whats staying asside from the ones I listed .. The dragons and a couple of the QTs
Is this considered hoarding ? Haha.. But seriously .. Is it?
Checked dimensions ... Well , it's 225g. Previous owner never added up the dimensions and assumed it was what it had been sold as . Oh well.. That'll hardly make a difference other then the fact it'll leave more space for one of the 125s next to it.
Lighting question!!
It currently has 2 t8s running across but I don't want to use that too long . I love Fluval aqua & plantlife LEDs but not sure they come 6ft. Does anyone have a really good LED option that's somewhat doable for a bit of highlight plants ? I'm not messing with CO2 or any of that .. Just good lights, sand plants and fish . It's 30inches deep so keep that in mind for the lighting suggestions .
(Mods.. Can you change the title to 225 instead of 240)
you could have someone build a led for you. i am a fan of the fugerays. the fluval are cool, however they are twice the price and have half the life of the finnex set ups. have you looked at the fugeray planted plus?
I might have to go with 2 36" lights . Seems really limited when looking for 72". Ive thought about the fugeray... But unsure as it seems the par is rather low in deeper water.. But then again I dont know the par ratings of my fluval. I do know it can support reds in some plants. I just wish I knew more LED options ( that arent insanely expensive)
i know the ray 2 ds penetrates deeper. i think i can dig up the par values for the ds and planted tank plus if you are interested. how deep is it to your substrate? i am also looking for new lights,so if i see anything that might work for you i will give you a heads up. are you going for low,med or high light? or do you have an ideal par in mind already?
Cutest. Fish. Ever! ^__^
I know I've seen this species before - they get pretty big, if I'm remembering correctly.
Definitely do your research here, guys - you'll likely need a bigger tank before it reaches full-growth... wouldn't want to stunt such a beauty ~.^
Haha.. Jolokia is black bearding! He must must not approve of the lack of decor. I will fix that VERY shortly.
Fluval fx6 is on its way.. Sand and light next to order. Need to create a"river" using white sand... so i think I'll be using silicone to make a river stone border to contain the white sand.
Indoor fish pond for the stingrays is on the list....
When I go back down in may you should come by to see the tank! Stands 5 feet tall - I think Camille might be doing some planting when the time comes dunno how else she's gonna get down there. I hear your....petite - perhaps we can hold you upside down and dangle you in there ;-)
We've finally finished the stocking plan !! And bought 4 of the additions that finished our tank mixing plan . May be perhaps a wee controversial stocking .. But hey.. You know us . That's our thing ;-)
So along with the silver dollar / Bala school , red severum, chocolate cichlid , school of Pictus cats , BGK, Baybay (ornate bichir ) , clown plecos, tiger pleco, palmas bichir, 9(?) angel fish, Aaannd ......
The new ones just bought today and in QT together at Jaysee's house are 3 young discus and a young delhezi bichir.
Here are the newbies
And yes, he will be keeping up regular water changes on them at risk of losing the most awesome gf ever ;-).. And even live foods along with NLS ! Then I'll take over as soon as we get them to NC .. So excited ! Our first mutual fish . Getting 3 or so more discus . And will be an aquascaped tank . So fun.
ordered the last 5 for he final stocking of our tank! :-D
5 more discus.
Alenquer Red Discus
Violet Halo discus
Red Spotted lemon peel discus
Green Sapphire High Fin Discus
and a
Rainbow dragon discus
This should add sufficient color to our tank aside from the plants I'll be planting
