A bit of an upgrade for my odd couple polleni and angelfish who were previously in my 55. Picked up this 75 gallon with a homemade stand. Nothing pretty, but it works. The fish, driftwood, and most of the plants from the 55 were moved in on June 3rd. I also moved over one of the cycled filters from the 55. Substrate is play sand. Plants are various Anubias and some java fern.
Now for pics. First here's how the tank looked when I bought it. I painted the stand and back of the tank black.
I was a bit apprehensive at first about moving the polleni from the quiet bedroom to the much higher traffic of the living room. I was afraid she would become shy and hide. But she is just loving all the activity. She is so curious and outgoing, always out and about and watching everything that's going on outside of her tank. She and the angel have really adjusted well to the move.
I would love a polleni someday. We have a similar taste in fish! Did you move her in here from the 150? Was she fighting? You read such mixed info on their aggression.
(Love your koi angel, too - I just got one for my tank and he is really cool looking and super interactive!)
Hi Magpie, no she was always in the 55 by herself. I moved the angel in with her because he was getting bullied by my other koi angel in the 135 community. It's a blessing that they get along because I couldn't stand the thought of getting rid of the angel. I don't want to risk trying the polleni in the 150 with the Oscar and black belt because there is a good harmony in that tank and I don't want to disrupt it. Maybe someday, if room opens up in the 150 I could move her into there. But right now the 75 is fine for her.
That makes me happy reading that! I am dreaming of my future tank and a polleni is one I'd like to be there for sure. How long is she, and how much has she grown since you got her? (I think I saw on MFK that you got her from a member there? Yep, I saw you on MFK when I was searching for polleni info and came across your odd couple there- they are memorable!)
My angel and ctenopoma are buddies - they like to hang out together sometimes.
Nice angel you got there! And ctenos are so cute when they're little!
Yup, I got the polleni from a MFK member. She was about 5" when I got her. She had a bit of a rough shipping experience and I thought she was a goner when I received the shipment. But she recovered very well. She's grown maybe 1-1/2" or so. I'll hAve to put the ruler up next to her tank and try to get a better estimate.
Can you tell me anything about the fish pictured in your Avitar?
Thanks.
Bob
