I do have lots of plants, but still.. if i was adding chlorine when i water change then I'm sure i would notice a mini cycle if it killed the bacteria off..

let the experts step in here.....

I might pick some up soon, cause I sometimes would like to just add some water instead of having to wait a whole day.

another tank is a NO GO. the mrs won't allow it lol. the tank we got, is apparently far too much fish tank. she doesn't understand! maybe one day.
I feel you there. hahahaha

I know letting water sits will distill it but I didn't know it worked that well. I would have to use conditioner because I don't want to wait a whole day but I would be even scared of trying it that way lol.

That is truly intriguing though.

Chlorine will dissipate within a day or two if let to sit. However Chloramines will not. Usually one or the other is found in your tap depending on your water providers preference. A lot of people do water changes without dechlorinator and it does work out just fine. It usually has to do with the amount changed and the amount of chlorine/chloramines actually in the tap water(usually its very small). Then it is further diluted by the tank water. It will bind to a lot of the organics in the tank and will be used up very quickly.

When I lived at home I never used dechlorinator since we had well water. Now in town I do use dechlorinator, but much less then recommended. I moved in here 11 months ago and I still have the same 250ml bottle of Prime, I use it on 30-40 gallons of tap water a week. I dose only for what I add and usually only 1/2 of what they give on the bottle. The dosage most dechlorinators give is for up to 4ppm chlorine which is the maximum levels allowed in tap water. Most water companies treat with only the minimum amount of chlorine required to keep bacteria counts down, which is often less then 1ppm. Not using dechlor is perfectly fine at those levels. There is however risk if they ever decide to flush the pipes, in which case they are NOT required to notify you about.

I personally would use dechlorinator on public water. Even if its not needed most of the time, its cheap and provides a safety net incase they mess with the water one week.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk

I think with all the live plants around it, it looks real. I would keep it, unless your snake needs the wood.
