55G in the middle of a redesign

This is my tank as of yesterday:

Right now, I am in the middle of some serious upgrades that will probably take the rest of the week since I'm being really lazy. :)
In that picture up there all I have in my tank is a pleco. Now I have a pleco and a red tail shark and I added this awesome holey white rock the red tail loves to go and hang out in.
I'm in the middle of replacing some of those fake plants on the left and adding in real plants. I initially added three plants but one is already dead, but the other two are doing just fine. I don't know what's up. I probably messed it up since I have no experience with live plants and I'm just going off what I've read online.
Aanyways.
I'm also going to be adding some petrified wood this guy gave me. He gave like 60 pounds for free. :) What a nice fellow. But it's just this big hunk I need to figure out how I want to break up and put into my tank. Weeee'lll see.
And yeah, I made that awesome stand myself. :)

its not necesary, but if you want a successful tnak with live plants it will definatly help to take out the airstone. i had an air driven filter for almost 5 months and i had to cut my plants down every other day. sounds like a great plan you got there!

Subject: Larry LaPrise dead at 93

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

subscribing,so i can see how you get on.
what by the way is the stand made from. ?

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
