Joe, it's your tank so it is you who should choose.
Maybe explain to her again which one she'll choose.
Discus with beauty and graces or the pair of big kissing gouramis which are not too colorful anyway .

I'm ready for the pressure.
The drama and the pleasure!
If there is one thing I want to see here, it's HUMOR.
I believe I can fly!
I believe I can touch the sky!
I think about it every night and day!
I stand in awe of my body.

The only fish that won't fit in 10 and 20 are kissing gouramis and angelfish. I'd replace the kissing gouramis with discus if I were you.

Joe, not the leaffish. It can eat fish half its size and your angels would only end up being eaten. Do not underestimate one predator as it'll find ways on how it will devour your other fish.
Another thing, are you prepared to buy lots of live fish? Leaffish tend to become fussy and prefer live food over dried ones. By adding live fish, you are increasing the wastes available which your discus will not tolerate easily.

Maybe so but I still won't recommend buying leaffish unless you are prepared to feed them live foods while they're still alive.
And even then, leaffish are quite solitary and are best kept in a species tank.
