Soooo I looked at 3 petsmarts and all of the aquariums had at least a couple bubbles. I ended up swapping it out for one that had just a small line of bubbles near the bottom corner on one.... I've come go the conclusion that I'm probably just more anal at inspecting these things that I should be... If 4 tanks didn't meet my standards. But I think I will go with this one.

I'm still debating the sand though! I got some tahitian moon sand, a 5 pound bag to see how it looks. I like it for the most part, but I don't like the shininess a bit; it looks like fresh asphalt. And I feel gravel has a bit more "character." But it's not bad. I'm probably gonna have to spend $100 or so for it though so I want to like it! I like the non-reflectiveness of Eco complete but I want something inert and the Eco complete I don't like because the grain size varies from like .5 mm to 15 mm. Also may get german rams.... Hmmm....

Got a second piece of drift wood too. :D

Glad you found a more satisfactory tank! I'd be anal about it, too!
TMS is shiny at first, but the glitter does fade with time, has for me, anyway.
You can also check Substrate Source.com, they have some really nice coated sands in a variety of shades, I've never bought from them, but have seen many good reviews around. Good luck on your search for the perfect substrate! You're right - better to be patient and get what you really like. Changing substrate in a tank that size once it's set up isn't something I'd wish on anyone!

Thanks I will check that out sometime! I hate ordering things online that I haven't seen in person before :( but I will check it out! :D

Petco sand seems less shiny. But I think it's painted. Not that that's necessarily a problem... Maybe I will go check it out again. I guess I'll just think about it! The sand just reminds me too much of a african cichlid tank to have plants and not African cichlids lol. I just obsess about this!

And yes changing substrate can be a pain, and I can imagine how much of a pain it would be to remove this sand.... It gets everywhere! Can't imagine having to take it out!

I hear ya! The idea of ordering just a lil' bit to see first is a good one. These guys sell on Ebay, too - I'm pretty sure they have smaller sample bags? I really, REALLY like their browns and tans...

You'll find what you love - and when you do, you'll know - and be SUPER in love with your tank! ^__^

Well I got my 75g tank set up and it took so much longer than expected to transfer everything. Water is a bit cloudy so I will take pics later. :) I decided to go with tahitian moon sand and I like it! The new eco complete has pieces of red in it which I didn't like so that practically completely got rid of that possibility.

I also got two German Blue Rams! I think I may have accidentally gotten two males though... Oops........... They were young and I guess I didn't have much experience sexing them! They have ich I'm sure, coming from petsmart (their first always have ich). What's really sad though is that there's not a decent fish store within 30 miles so I just try to buy my fish at one go and assume they will have ich and treat them. I went to the decent fish store that's about 30 miles away and they only had balloon version......... Yuck. Anyways, they are in my 44g so ill just cook them (and the few angelfish in there) at 86F for a few weeks.... Hope it's not a heat resistant strain!
