I'll try to post an "after" pic soon for the algae it's pretty amazing! I'll try to get clearer pics soon too but I heard it's hard to tell the gender for electric blue rams anyways and y two normal blue rams ended up males, 100% sure.

I've been getting nitrate readings for <5ppm, I just tested before my weekly water change. I wonder if I should slow down the changes.... Plants might starve! But I have so many fish and feed a lot! 0.0 no reason the cycle would crash but I could test ammonia and nitrite too. I think it's because the new sand doesn't have collected crud decomposing and the water lettuce is sucking it up??

Wow, Austin! Beautiful ram! How did I miss that before! Soooooo jealous... I can't have them as they like the acidic, soft water. Your angels are gorgeous, as usual, and that SAE really did a fantastic job, didn't he? I thought about one at one point when I had BBA, but they say they aren't happy unless in groups. I'll have to take a look back at this thread because I've obviously missed some stuff!

Just looked back at page nine and saw you have high Ph and semi-hard water. PLEASE let us know how your rams do, as I have much the same water, will be interesting to see how they fare. Good luck, and looking forward to your next post, as always!

Thank you! :) I have heard the same thing for SAE... I have 2 more in my 44g. I had a solo one in the past that lived for years and seem happy enough, although it is cute watching the two outside play together. They really have lovely personalities I wish I could afford to have more but space is limited. They probably really should be kept in groups.

I will let you know how the blue ram does! I think I've had him for about a month. I do have harder water. About 14-15 dGH and pH 8-8.2. He is adorable and has a great personality always coming out to see me. I really hope he thrives. I am afraid I'll Jinx it by talking about it. I have heard they randomly die sometimes after having they for a month or two. Hope this isn't the case, I'm not sure how badly hard water will effect them. I feel a bit bad experimenting but I really like GBR. I think the key so far is I have water lettuce that I believe for now is keeping my nitrates at an almost unmeasurable level, less than 5 ppm. I'm afraid to add another since this one is still doing well and I have to quarantine some females which I'm having trouble finding. But I'm always paranoid to add fish. This one may be a female anyways... :)

WOW, you do have a high PH. Mine is only 7.6. Can't remember what the dGH is. If you've had him a month, and he acts fine, then maybe I could have one! Oh, I just read where you said they can randomly die after a month or two. I have heard how sensitive they are to everything, and they like warmer water than my other fish too, so probably wouldn't work well with me. Like you, I only have so much tank space, and even if I could afford it, no room for another one!

Yes, and you SHOULD be paranoid about adding fish. Remember what happened to me.... and is still lingering too. I learned the hard way. I haven't added anything to my 55 because of the problem. My 20 and 10 gallon are doing well. I hope it stays that way. Keep us updated on your ram. If yours continues to do well I might try one in my 20. Those angels of yours are to die for!

I saw mixed reviews... People saying they absolutely need soft acidic water and people saying that they can adapt. However, unlike angelfish, less people seemed to be on the side of "they can adapt," but I figured I'd just try myself. I have driftwood but not sure it's doing much to the pH I haven't tested lately. Either way I do about 50% water changes weekly but may lower that since I have less than 5 ppm nitrate... My water is about 79.8 so it's a bit on the lower end. :) and thank you!
