50g Photo Journal!

Thought I'd do one of these to see how my tank develops. :) I just got an angelfish and a boesemani rainbowfish tonight. I've had the platy for about a week now. I will be getting more boesemani but they are kind of expensive ($13 with tax included) so I want to make sure one does okay at first. Same for the angelfish. I would have gotten a couple angelfish but this was really the only pretty one they had! And it was veil. I wasn't sure I wanted veil angels because I feel like they sometimes look awkward when they swim -- like they were bred in a way that made them attractive to some people, but over-finned and uncomfortable. But it was really pretty imo! :) They had really pretty adult angels but not really any pretty young ones, so I'll try to be patient for the pretty ones. :/

Oh and I just got the sword plant. I had them before and they did fairly well. Odd, because I only have 0.6667 Watts per gallon.

Lets hope they all live!

The tank is looking good. It will look even better when the plants fill in. Amazon swords don't need much light. If that's what they are. Just note on the caution side. Angels always do better in a group and its usually best to introduce them that way into a tank. Especially adults. When you go to add more you *might* have problems with the existing one liking the new additions but then you might not. Just something to think about when you do. Anyways pretty tank! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks :) I agree it looks very naked right now!! I am trying to find vallisneria too but it's hard to find for some reason. :(

It's annoying because I literally have gone to almost every fish store in a 20 mile radius (or called) and none of the chain pet smart/petco have any in stock, and the others don't either or they have adult ones (beautiful), but I want juveniles. The fish store I got this one from only had marble variety juveniles aside from this one. I thought they were all ugly. :( I'll hope for the best!!

All are still alive! :D

Looks good, Austin! Your Boesemani looks a little older than mine. Mine has not developed as deep of a body yet. Your platy is a Bumblebee, right? I have one colored almost exactly like that one. Those markings are a bit more uncommon, but I like them a lot. Your tank will fill in, and it'll look awesome! My tank is a 55, so they are close. And yes, I think you have a male Boes too!

10 gallon- 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 1 female betta.

20 gallonH - 1 Peacock Gudgeon, 2 Skunk Cories, 1 Sparkling Gourami. , one male betta, 2 nerite snails.

55 gallon - 3 Turquoise Rainbows, 1 Boesemani Rainbow, 2 Australian Rainbow, 4 Gold Dust mollies, 1 L. Dorsigera, 2 White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 1 Honey Gourami, 3 Cherry barb, 1 Koi Angelfish, 4 female betta.

very nice tank, look forward to watching it grow.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Yes it is a bumblebee. :D are you referring to the bumblebee when you say the markings are uncommon?

Thanks willow :) me too!

Nice start to the tank Austin, and nice looking angel. I have thought about getting some vals for my tank also and have had the same problem locally. Thinking that I will wait til the end of the summer and see if I can get some from a local hobbyist. Just don't want to take the chance of having them mailed in the summer heat.

Yes, I was referring to the Bumblebee. Most aren't that dark. I'd like to find a dark boy for my girl. I much prefer that coloring! Your rocks--did you get those off ebay? I got some too. I need to glue mine together, as they collapse too easily. Love them though--the fish enjoy the nice caves they make. What a handsome guy your Boes is! And the angel is very pretty too.

Thank you! :) Well, I see the vallisneria but at the stores I've gone to, they consistently have one or two that is hardly alive. It's hard to believe something so popular/common is so difficult to find.

I too prefer the darker bumblebees. She was the only one they had!

I got the rocks at a local rock store (idk what they are called! A bulk place for construction and such). They aren't glued together. It's hard to position them though so they sturdy but it eventually gets it right. And thank you :).

So I have some updates. Here is the tank now. I just got my eheim filter in the mail. :)

I am going to try to get at least one more boesemani tomorrow and the rest soon. They are just so expensive!

Here is the new angel! He's the tiny one. The big one was being a bully yesterday but he's much nicer today. I think he was just letting him know who is boss. But I'll be keeping an eye. I'm sure it's not the smartest thing to add a new small angel...
