As I've now started to make some serious changes on my 29 gal tank, I thought it would be neat to share them with everyone. I'll try to get at least one picture a month.

This was the tank about 4 months ago. It wasn't anything to look at. In fact, I avoided looking at it.

This was the tank about three weeks ago, shortly after I added black sand and more plants. You can also see the half-giant betta that is currently calling the tank home. The plants are Rotala in the back left. Dwarf sagittaria in the back right. Pygmy chain sword in the front right. Water sprite is floating. Java fern is tied to the driftwood, and there's a tiny sprig of anubias rooted to drftwood in the back. See if you can find it! ;-)

I was comparing this picture to how my tank looks now, and there really hasn't been much growth. The stem plants are showing good growth and the pygmy chain swords show some growth compared to this picture. But I tugged on some of the plants and they seem to be getting pretty good root systems. I just added some root tabs, and I'm hoping those will help, too.

The tank is far from done. I'd also like to add chain sword, undulated crypt, and maybe a tiger lotus, but I'm going to let the tank and substrate mature a while before I add them. I'm also on the hunt for a nice large piece of driftwood for the left side of the tank (which is why it looks so bare). I'd like something tall and rooty. Once I get all the plants in and established, I'll go get my cardinals! (And promptly put them in QT.)

--------------------------------------------------

Because I don't know how much of my other tanks you've seen I'll include the most up-to-date pictures of my goldfish tank and betta tanks just for kicks.

I'm still battling with the plants to get them to grow. I'm hoping some root tabs for the swords will make a difference. Next time I set up a goldfish tank, I'm doing a freshwater refugium and only have a hardscape in the tank.

The betta tower! What's the best thing to do when you have too many tank? Stack them! :-D

Also, any tips for tank photography are much appreciated!

GUYS!!!!!!!!!!! They're here! I bought my cardinal tetra from the lovely lady that I bought my farlowella from. They arrived today! There was one DOA, but she sent extras. I think I have 12 in there. They are so darn hard to count! No pictures of as right now as they are still acclimating, but I'll see if I can get some after work tomorrow.

I promise there will be pictures tomorrow!! Although I honestly can't promise how good they will be. I can hardly COUNT all of them let alone take a picture of them lol!!! And just like that I'm in love. I want massive tanks filled with these guys.

Perlumia, I buy from Invertebrates by Msjinkxd. She is a hobbyist turned importer/breeder. Not only does she do shrimps, snails, and crabs, but she also specializes in microfish and just plain hard to find fish. Excellent turnaround time, too. I emailed her about these guys on Sunday and got them on Tuesday.

I pulled the DOA out as soon as I saw the poor thing, and the others perked right up. He looked like he'd been dead for a few hours. But I'm still pretty sure I have 12 live ones.

... I don't know about the black neons. Since the cardinals are still very unsure of themselves they are shoaling rather tightly, and it makes me think I will have room for black neons. But I know the cardinals will grow and begin to explore the tank more on their own in the coming weeks. Right now the option is certainly still on the table. It looks like I will either get another 6 cardinals or a shoal of 12 black neons.

Boxer, I bought them from Invertebrates by Msjinkxd. I've bought from her twice and been super happy with my purchases both times!

As promised these are the best pictures I can get of the little buggers! They are so fast. Forget counting them let alone photographing them!

Oh! And you can play spot the farlowella in some of them! I did have to edit these pictures to make them lighter.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Dude. If I die, and I get a chance, I wanna come back as a fish and live in your tank, k? I'm pretty sure I'd like it there. Love the shots - just the little flashes of blue that show up against the green are gorgeous! Everyone settling in well?

Thank you so much for your complements, everyone!! I am so pleased with the way this is coming together. It's come so far from what it was a year ago today.

Yes they are! I was so tired last night that I forgot to mention I feed them for the first time. Those little blue streaks took to it perfectly! I should have known from the way my farlowella took to sinking wafers on the first day, that these little guys would gobble up pellets like there is no tomorrow (farlowella and cardinals came from the same seller).

OMG I so agree with cheshera!!!
BTW, what are the plastic boxes for in the tank??? If you already said this, sorry
Oh no worries! I might have told some people but I haven't said anything here. Those are my two halfmoon bettas. They came from the tank that is now the shrimp tank. They were supposed to go to a girl my mom is tutoring who loves animals. But her father died last Sunday, so they will be spending more time with me.

Oh yay you got them finally!
Dude there is no farlowella in those photos. o_O

 He is actually in two of them. The first one and the third one. The pictures are a little dark so he's rather hard to see, but he's in the same position in both pictures.

Since it's been a month since I last updated I thought this tank was due for some pictures! Not much has changed, but the crypts are looking much better now. Had some melting but also some regrowth. The cardinals are completely settled in and act like they own the place. The gourami are still ... well gourami. And the loaches like to mess up my pictures.

I have actually ordered more cardinals as well as my amano shrimps, but they won't be here until next week. The seller is traveling and won't be back until the weekend. I'm not too sure if I'll be able to get any good pictures of them, but I'll certainly try!

Izzy, nothing to say but your tank is looking AMAZING! It's growing so well. . . makes me happy to see it. Also thrilled to hear things are going so well with the last group of new arrivals - and looking forward to the next to come *GRINS* Keep it up!!!

Oh wow, the tank is looking beautiful! I love all the growth going on! How exactly are the loaches messing up the pictures?

Thanks, everyone! I'm really really happy with the way this turned out. I was a bit disappointed until I got those crypts in there. Now I love it!!

Sang, I have to leave it on a longer exposure because the lighting is so low. The loaches were doing some loach aerobics tonight. This is the ONLY picture where there isn't a long, blurry brown streak right in the middle of the frame. I'm just glad I didn't try one at mealtime... you guys saw the video!
