I got on film one of my ropes actively stalking the ghost shrimp. Watch to see what happens!

That's exactly what it looked like. They seemed to get all sorts of aggressive after their shrimp mate was taken. It's kind of sad but this is the way things are till the 90 gallon gets here and is up and running. I plan to move the ropes then into that because I really prefer for my shrimp to be a clean up crew, and not fish food. :C

You did capture an awesome (but sad for the shrimp) moment on video! So little is known about these guys in the wild as you said, and observing them in the aquarium is the only way to learn!

So how many more of the shrimp are gone now?

Nature sucks sometimes but it is what it is.

I'm not really sure. I probably had between 20-30 shrimp. I know at least 3-4 died when the second batch came home (they didn't take to the change well). I'll have to sit and count some time.

I want to bring another batch home soon but the pet-store hasn't had any "Surprise healthy shrimp!" shipments lately. I'd like to get some healthy fancy shrimp and try them in the 10 gallon.

So I finally got my cough to quiet down enough to do this:

Very long talking video. I go over updates with the 10 and the 80 gallon tank.

I agree with you - your ropes are entrancing, beautiful creatures . . . I hope you find the perfect new rope baby to add to their group.
Poor Bluegill! I'm going with option two, also. I remember you posting images of Bluegill after an 'emo' session, lol, the fin nips look different this time around. . .he hasn't been doing that at all since being moved into the larger tanks, has he? Poor little baby. . . he can't catch a break! Heal quickly, little Blue! The growth in the 10g is great, little Clover looks happy!

I recently had a similar thing happen in my 55 after a water change - only not as extreme. All of my rams were hiding in the corner, the loaches were lazing, and the Tetra all bunched into a little ball. Tap water tested normally, but there must have been something going on. I ran some charcoal, and whatever it was cleared up pretty quickly - but what a scare! You didn't say, but I'm assuming the Prime helped, since everything seems happy in there now . . .

I do hope Queen has learned a lesson. . . is the plan still to get the other two Bichir out of the tank, or do you think she'll continue to leave them alone? . . . still can't imagine how awful that whole Bichir vs Rope was for everyone involved. *sigh*

As always, a lovely video of your lovely tanks!

I enjoyed your videos; my 6 year old thought your rope fish looked like an eel (he's obsessed with eels! I'd love to get one but have a feeling it would be beyond my husbandry skills right now). I also admire your video editing; the slo-mo instant replay of the rope eating the shrimp was awesome.

They are a lot of fun! I'm really enjoying mine.

Nice update video! Poor Blue-Gill!! He got chewed on again! But I'm glad he's in a temp home where his tail shouldn't be chewed by other fish.

The 80 is looking great! I love watching your ropes move, too. Their pectorals are adorable and they move so much like snakes it's uncanny!
