I really enjoyed that video, it was a great little look into their world. . . all poor eyesight considered, it's hilarious how she REALLY gets into little Stumpi's face and gives him a real look-over. You have to get the approval of The Queen to live in this tank! So far, he seems to be passing the test - and doesn't seem to be bothered in the slightest bit with having her all up in his business, lol! Stumpini comes across as a bit of a young whippersnapper, lol. I always imagine him to be a bit on the mischievous/cheeky side. Always putting more into fish than what is probably actually there. I have a problem with 'humanizing' fish, lol! Can't help it - they have such distinct personalities. There MUST be more to them than science would have us believe!

So odd about the nipping, I always think of Queen as an 'I do my thing, you do yours' kind of girl. . . I don't recall you mentioning it before, is this a relatively new development? I wonder. . . I seem to remember you saying not *TOO* far back, when Queen really started to be out more often, that you suspected that the last of her gills were gone, and she was kind of finally being forced out to come up for air. Would this be indicative of a bichir reaching maturity? Maybe she's just at the point where she's letting poor Sen, who has always been less shy and more visible, know who's the boss. . . kind of like my rams do. I hope it doesn't get to be any more aggressive than a nip here and there. . . *worries*

I am so pleased to say I have new arrivals!

http://youtu.be/HHlHi7_YZjc

4 darling Histrionica Loaches came home today, little tiny things. The big pet-store got them in monday (about time some became available locally again!). Of course this is the same pet-store that sold me Loaches that had Ich.

So as a precaution I am putting them in the 10 gallon for QT, and running a Kodron's Ich Attack (which is all herbal) as a preventative. Will watch them for the next 2 weeks to make sure they are completely Ich free before going into to be with the other loaches.

This means a lot to me to be able to bring home these little ones. Fred and George (the two adult Histrionica) will benefit from having loaches around that are their own species.

Also the names of the four little ones are Ron, Ginny, Bill, and Charles. This follows along with a theme of naming my fish after characters from Harry Potter.

YAY! Loach-butts! They are so darn CUTE! Tiny little guys. . . Clover doesn't look so fond of the new arrivals, but I sure am - congratulations on a full-fledged shoal! Their bigger buddies are going to be so happy when these little ones come to play :D Hope all goes well with their QT!

YAY sang! I like the new little guys!

I'm getting two of what I think are yoyo loaches. They don't really fit in with that aqua scape soo I was wondering if you'd like them? :) Full grown.

Clover now tends to hang about in the mid range of the tank and just watches the loach butts dance up and down the sides of the glass. Poor thing, he'll have his own tank back to him in a few weeks.

Yes. I really am hoping that the two are able to recognize the little ones as same species. I am hoping it helps them want to come out more often.

Like I said in chat I'd love to take them. It would be nice to have a few more larger loaches to occupy the two big golden Zebra when it comes to tussling matches.

Haha! Poor Clover has given up trying to dominate the crazy loaches.

I would think the two large histrionica would recognize the little ones as member of the same species via pheromones. Or let's hope that's what happens. How many loaches will this bring your total to?

Also... is that eco complete in Clover's tank?

One would think though, but I have no real knowledge of how they identify one another. When these four go in that would bring the loach total to 14.

3 Ladder Loach
1 mystery loach (may be a yoyo or ladder)
4 yoyo
6 Histrionica/Golden Zebra

Then if those two yoyo come in from Termato the tank would then have 6 yoyos :3
In the future I should probably try to get at least 2 more ladder loach in there so they have a proper species shoal.

No that's just regular black gravel I picked up. I didn't' have a lot of funds when setting up the 10 gallon, it was my X-mas gift to myself. I'd like to get some eco though and top the gravel with it.

I would totally be crazy jealous of your botine loachyness if you didn't share them with us all the time in your amazing videos!

Oh I couldn't do that to people. I have to share!

Stuff like this is just too cute! This is the 4 loaches 5 days after going into the QT. They still look really healthy and love to glass surf. I'm not seeing any signs of ich, and have been running the anti-ich preventative.

I seriously consider moving them in Sat if they continue to do this well with looking/acting so healthy.
