Hey guys, I've posted a thread on my 150 gallon and I'm finally getting around to posting journals on some of my other tanks. This 135 gallon tank I bought used end of last year and it replaced the 55 gallon I had in my living room. All the fish from the 55 were transferred over plus some new additions over these past months. Filtration is a Fluval 406 cannister and 2 HOBs (Penguin 350 and Aqueon 75). Substrate is play sand, all the plants are live (doing only so-so) with some driftwood and large river rocks scattered throughout. I love watching this tank because there is always something interesting to watch. Occupants are:
4 Angelfish
2 Red Severums
2 Electric Blue Acara 1 Ctenopoma Acutiroste (African Leaf Fish) 5 Dennison Barbs 2 Spotted Raphael Catfish
1 Striped Raphael Catfish
1 BN Pleco
3 So. American Bumblebee Catfish
I think that's everybody.
Full tank shot (the Balas you see in the pic have since been moved to the 150)
The Angels are loving all the extra room. I bought these guys last year at my fish club auction. They're finally getting to breeding size and I have a pair who have laid eggs but ate them. As I'm typing this the female is currently picking another spot preparing to lay again.
Here's the Red Sev and the latest addition a young (hopefully female) sev. I love these guys, they are pretty laid back and great fish if you want a cichlid for a community although they get big and won't hesitate to eat small fish such as neons or cardinals.
The Ctenopoma is the main reason I can't have any small fish in this tank. Not aggressive at all but very predatory. I've had him for about 7 years now. Very cool fish. Here's some pics of when he was very young.
Whew! This taking forever loading these pics lol. Just a few more...
The Dennison's are very hard to get good pics of as they are always on the move and all the pics of them are just blurs. But you can see some of them in some of the previous pics.
The catfish hide all the time and it's a real treat when I do see them out. They are like the trolls under the bridge. The 3 Raphaels all hang out under the fake driftwood as does 1 of the Bumblebees. No really good pics of them but here's one of the Spotted Raphaels and one of the Bumblebees when they were in QT. And the Striped Raph.
It would be nice but I'm not holding my breath. I do have an empty 10 gallon I could set up as a fry tank. Unfortunately the eggs disappeared so I think they ate them.
perhaps next time.
i have a couple of jewel cichlids guarding eggs again,i thought about hatching them,
but if i do,i have nowhere to put them as they grow.
A sad update...came back last weekend from camping to find Spook,my ctenopoma, floating. I'd had him for about 7 years. A very cool fish, one of my favorite. I'm thinking I might get another one sometime soon. I'll miss you buddy.
Well, ended up I had to separate the 2 larger angels so I put 1 in the 55 gallon with the rams and tetras. I think they're both males. The young orange kois are ready to be moved out of qt. I will probably move them over this weekend. Hopefully the larger angel behaves himself. I'm hoping since there's 4 and they're much smaller than him he won't see them as,a threat.
