10 gallon snail/shrimp tank

This is the start of my 10 gallon shrimp/snail breeding tank. They will be used for food for my puffers(once I get them). I added a couple of plants from my 55 to it to help the cycling. I plan on running 2 sponge filters, so I have an extra one to toss in my extra 10G hospital tank. Anyone have a good link to a DIY sponge filter using a air pump and stone?

I like the gravel. I may be wrong but I think you need alot more plants to help it cycle. Good luck with your puffers when you get them.

If the 5 gallon had fish in it and the gravel went streight from one tank to the other then it should help as long as the 5 gallon had been set up and cycled for a while. Good luck with your tank.

I would rinse some of the good bacteria from your filter cartridge from your bigger tank in the water on the 10 gal. I did this to start my unfiltered tub pond. Good plants that cycle a tank are Hornwort, Anacharis I bought this plant at Petco for about $2.99 a bunch, Vallisneria is also a good plant but the other 2 are better at cycleing a tank or pond water. I always keep an extra bio/sponge in my other tanks filter box to use in hurry for QT tank set ups or when needed for another tank.
