wow very nice job! Looks great! Hoping mine will turn out that nice. What kind of plants do you recommend? My petstores have a small selection so I will need to order online.

To be honest i just grabbed whatever plants looked good

I will say one thing if you have shrimp dont get any Anubais or Crypt species
I had quite a few of both untill a friend looked at a photo and said something about when the leaves break off they give off a chemical (dont know what) that kills/harms shrimp
and sure enough within a hour or two of removing them my shrimp were running about the tank even one's i thought i had lost

it might be an old wives tale but seamed to make a difference to my tank

I dont know if they kill shrimp but when they were in my tank my shrimp were on the missing list now the shrimp are everywhere
Ive got 2 bamboo, 6 amano and 6 cherry red shrimp and I can always see some all the time where as before I use to just see the bamboo once every now and then
like I said it might be an old wives tale but it made a difference in my tank

Okay will remember that in the future I have both of those plants in a tank with shrimp

Its probably just a myth but the plants are cheeper than the shrimp so the plants had to go
i thought it just wasn't worth the risk

plus this is my first ever tank so I just took everything that people said to be true including lfs but soon learnt that was a mistake

@Skerry I cannot identify your red plant, but generally speaking, red plants require very high light. There are a few red ones which will grow in low or medium light, but I'm pretty sure the majority of them need very high light to survive. Could you perhaps upload a close-up of your red plant? I'm sure that will help with identification.[/quote]

The plant seams to lose its colour in the leaves the lower down the stem
The gourami's dont help the situation due to them taking chunks out of the leaves

Would changing one of my tubes to a different K rating help or might it make things worse due to not enough CO2 or nutrients
I like the low tech approach due to it being cheaper to setup and run

As I said previously, we need to know what you have before we can suggest replacing one or both tubes. Provide all the light info, whatever is printed on one end of the tubes [on both tubes if they are different].
