Much would depend on reflectors that may or may not be as effective as your's or mine ,and or how high above the surface of the tank light is sitting, and or how many hour's you/he are running all light's or part of them,siesta period, one four foot double tube fixture, or two 24 inch single bulb fixtures,etc, but I do agree as I mentioned,,that duration and or intensity might be reduced.(what could it hurt?)
Not like he can increase DIY CO2 ,which is hard to supply DIY at sometimes needed level's in larger tank's.
Most are subborn when it comes to lighting, and it is the light,that drives everything.

Sorry I havnt updated my details in a while.

I actually have a 4 t5 HO bulb iQuatics Aqualumi which sits about 6 to 8 inches above the water on for 10 hours per day and pressurised co2 which strems at 3bps constant. I did turn it off at night but I have got better results since leaving it on perm.

The BBA came before the change to perm co2 by the way.

I wish the SAE I have in my tank knew what he was supposed to do with this stuff . . .I wouldn't buy an SAE just to see if it will eat it. Perhaps no never had it while you owned the SAE not because of anything the fish were doing, but just sheer luck that you had not encountered this algae.

Anyway, I am going to go with a shorter light period and Hydrogen peroxide as suggested above and see what happens.

I agree. I would treat, then go down to 8hrs of light a day and see how it goes.

It seems that the SAE's I bought have a very huge appetite for it. They have cleared one rock already :)
