A lot of times, parents won't let their kids have pets because they are afraid that they (the parents) will end up having to take care of the pets themselves if the kids lose interest.

Looks like we are beating a dead horse here...

People come to a forum for advice. We have you given you advice as to what to do with your Goldfish and/or tank, and you have ignored our word. There is no excuse as to why you cannot give the Goldfish away.

Ah, I don't know what to do here if people don't listen.

You know i personally in my opion agree with the person who said i should keep my fish.(Sorry, i don't know any names yet, please forgive me) Show my mom that i can take care of the fish i have and that = bigger tank...If i get rid of my fish, that's just showing my mom that i can't take care of the fish. If i keep my fish, she'll think, "wow, shes doing such a great job. I guess she deserves a bigger tank..."

I agree. Show your mom that you are responsible and a good fishkeeper and maybe that will convince her that you should have a bigger tank.I hope everything works out for you.

Honestly, if this were me and I had the money and my own room, I'd just buy a bigger tank, set it up, and see how that goes....not sure what your parents are like though. My parents don't even care for fish tanks and they weren't really crazy about the whole idea, but now I have 5 tanks (one 5.5, two 10, one 15, and one 29 gallon) all in my room which is about 8X10' by the way. Because they know that I take good care of my fish they've even offered to let me set up a very large (125 gallon) tank in my living room, but unfortunately I don't have the money for it right now.

Like has been said, your goldies will soon outgrow your 5 gallon tank and it is overcrowded as it is now. I know that you are very attached to them....but my teacher also "really cared" for her betta fish but he still almost died numerous times until she finally gave him to me. Because she finally made the right choice, he will get to live out a long life in his new home. It's really up to what your parents are like in my opinion. If you think that by showing them that you take good care of your pets that they will soon let you upgrade, then go for it. If not, you could check out the classifieds section here and maybe someone knowledgeable here would take them. If I were in a warmer climate, I would build myself a pond just so that I could take in all the goldies that pet stores sell under false pretenses...

See, my mom cares about everything. She's a control freak. If it's not under her control and she could control it, she has a fit! I really makes me mad how she acts. It's not me who's treating my fish soo badly. She WOULDN'T LET ME GET RID OF MY FISH. That's just the way it is. My fish are stuck and you can thank her. I love my mom. Please know that. But she does things i don't agree with.

Maybe try sitting down with her and talking about it. It seems like this is an issue that would affect you in many areas of your life, so it is definitely worth sorting it out. My mom's pretty controlling also, but over the years she has learned that I am responsible and trustworthy so I guess she trusts me enough to give me a little space. When the talk comes around to your fishtank, maybe show her this site so she can see for herself what you are talking about. It's worth a try and seems like it would benifit everyone in the long run.

sorry i was bein so rude.... I guess they are ur fish, u love them, and don't want anything bad for them, so they are in good hands.... My mom is all strict and says ABSOLUTLY NO MORE FISH OR TANKS, then I come home with one, and she doesn't care! lol(well.... the 55g was a different storey)
