My 10 gallon

Only One Haze

This is my first tank in years. It's a 10 gallon, with fake plants, natural gravel, a piece of Malaysian driftwood, and a slate ledge/cave that I made.

It is the home to a male Sunburst Platy, a male Red Wag Platy and 6 Harlequin Rasboras. And possible future home of 4 pygmy corydoras

Here is an updated pic with the water topped off after realizing that my heater is fully submersible....think the fish got tired of pics cuz the platies are hiding behind the driftwood and the Harlequins are all along the side of the tank, lol. Also moved the feeding ring to the back corner so its out of sight unless looking slightly up at the tank.



I think the left corner came out pretty well. I needed something to hide some of the light so I bought 2 plants that are taller than the tank. One is in the gravel like normal and the top flops over and floats. The other, I took the bottom off and tied a suction cup to it and stuck it to the glass a couple inches below the waterline so that it will float. I am thinking about duplicating this on the right side as well for some balance.

The little rock in the middle was picked out by my 14 month old son. This tank has really been great for him. He has to do physical therapy and he will stand in front of it and watch the fishies all the while not realizing he is doing therapy. Win Win!

Thats awesome Haze.. I would recommend not copying the plant idea on the opposite side... maybe a strait tower-like object.

If you get pygmy cories do 6.

Would 6 be too many with 6 Harlequins and 2 platys in a 10 gallon? That was my only concern. Yeah, I won't be duplicating the corner thing, found out tonight that the wife doesn't like it anyway. Understands why we need it (to block some light for the Harlequins) but doesnt really like it haha.

6 is fine. You can overstock a little bit with cories without too much worry. While they are not scavengers they will eat food that makes it to the bottom. It still comes out the other end but either way it means the same output.

I love your design of your tank. Good job for your first tank. Looks so nice. Love your pictures.Good idea getting only male livebearers.You will not get overpopulated with fry. Angelfish will take care of those fry if you get a bigger tank. They are always on the hunt for fry.

Sadly, we lost the Red Wag Platy last night. When I left for work yesterday morning he looked very lethargic, just laying on the bottom. And shortly after I got off of work he died. I think being part of the cycle finally caught up to him. Him and the other Platy were our cycle fish. We were just starting out and hadnt heard of fishless. This sucks.

I think we will go with 6 Pygmy Cory now though.

The tank is very pretty. I love platys. Such colorful, personable fishies. :) When we first had our 10 gallon tank, we had just simple red platys... 4 of them. And they were so adorable. It always looked like they would yawn to... sometimes I'd stick my finger in, and they'd all come and nibble at it. Great fun!
