I agree that angels and gourami are not a good mix in the same aquarium. Both fish are very territorial, the males particularly. I have found over my 20+ years that having any cichlid and any gourami in a community tank carries a certain degree of risk solely because they will spawn frequently, and being protective parents they do not appreciate any other fish in the tank. This can be managed, but sometimes not easily. I don't know how many times I have moved these fish from one tank to another just to prevent stressing out other quiet fish. So, one or the other; and even then, understand that at spawning you could have disagreements.

Thank you for the info. My daughter is getting ready to set up a 10 gal tank. We really want to keep the gouramis so we are moving them into her tank. I hope the angels don't have problem coexisting with the other fish in my tank.

I'm thinking a 10g is gonna be too small for the gourami. May still want to rehome them.

Yes a 20g is strongly encouraged, and if both the gourami are males that still wont be enough.

Time will tell. If they are both male, they may or may not tolerate each other long term. If they are a pair or both female, probably won't be an issue. Stuff it with plants, wood, rock. The more the space is broken up so they can be out of each other's sight, the better.

Yikes! I still have my Opaline Gourami with my 5 Angelsfish. So far so good but it might change and if it does, changes will be made. Thus far, my Gourami seems to think she is an Angel (she is in my mind) She swims right with them and hangs out especially with one of them. It probably helps that she was 6 inches long when I got the Angels and she is a very very peaceful individual.

About the Dwarf Gourami. I have one in a 25 gallon and honestly, I wish I could have him in a larger tank, he is quite active and really uses the whole tank. He is in there with about 15 male Guppies and an Apple Snail and 3 Oto's. Water changes are large and every 4-5 days. I think the Dwarf is far more active then my full size Gourami. Maybe it is just mine, I am sure there are different ones. I am sure a 20 is fine but like Byron said, "plants and such to block views" can help a huge amount. Good Luck!

I ended up taking the gouramis back and got 5 angels and 3 rubber-nose pleco's. My daughter seems to think the plecos and otto's will starve due to lack of algae. I've read they will eat algae pellets, cucumbers, zucchini, romaine lettuce and spinach. Is this true?
