Extreame Makeover Tank Edition

My tank went on a downward spiral last year. All the weed was removed as it was more algae than plant, the fish slowly died off of various reasons, save a pair of now lonely betta sisters :( By then the entire tank was green.
Just look at their sad faces. :(

I decided to strip down the tank and start over. I decided that I didn't want gravel covering the whole tank floor, so now I just have one pile in the corner for plants and in case I get any more catfish.

I moved the barrel after the photo was taken because I felt the tank needs something up the top. I still think it needs something :( Maybe just a wall deco or plants. What do you guys think?

One of my ladies decided to be a bottom feeder for the day. Probably because she was too busy exploring the new tank while I was trying to feed them.

I can't tell what that facial expression is. Maybe she's smiling on the inside.
