75 Gallon Rescape: Bichir Tank

I'll get some picture of the pvc pipe as soon as I can. I plan to get some pure rubber silicone and roll the ends of the pipes (the only parts that will be seen) in sand that way the ends blend into the tank.


It looks like the Fish are going to have to go into a waiting container for the move. The husband of the lady wants us to have the tank with us when we pick up theirs. I can understand why though(I would imagine they may be worried about being scammed or something). I am thinking about cleaning up the old 50 gallon and transporting everything over Sun morning(really don't want to do this as the tank really doesn't fit them all but it's better than them going into buckets). Then they will spend a few hours in there till they go into the new tank. I'll scoop my sand into a bucket and leave it there to hold it. Sat is when I will start rinsing the sand and have it ready for Sun.

I'll see if I can have someone take video but it will only go up unlisted.

DIY Aquarium Cave using a PVC pipe is a tutorial I found. I will be following this except instead of cutting my pipe in half or covering the entire thing it will be 2-3 inches of each end that gets covered this way.

I will be using sand and not gravel but it should work just as well. Should be getting the silcone stuff today. I will take progress pictures.

Me too. So the first pipe was cut in half, and I've sand papered all the areas I needed. I just finished using the grinding part of my rotary tool to smooth down the edges on the ends of each pipe.

Next up silicon and sand!

Yeah... apparently the stuff gives off ammonia and something else when it cures.

That said on to pictures:



Here are the two pipes. They are actually two feet long per pipe.





One of them was cut in two. I hand sand papered each side on all the tubes and used my rotary tool to sand down the edges (I don't know how well you can see it)

So I used a brush and the silicone, then spread the sand onto my ends. I've put plastic leaves from an old fake plant on to use as guides. That way they are a good visual reminder of where the openings are once they are sunken down and covered in sand. Most of each pipe will be covered by sand save the ends.



I've got them on my bed, I'll be taking them into my work room soon enough. Once they set for 24 hours they will be submerged in water for a few days till Sun to help get rid of any left over residue.

To be clear the white part of the PVC pipe will be covered with sand. I'm sinking the pipes so that it doesn't take up swimming room/scooting room. The ends that I covered in sand will be seen though to serve as exit/entrance holes.
