Btw, that one plant in queens picture is so hard to grow. Mine is doing the same thing it grows new leaves but the old ones are so hard to maintain. That plant neeeds to many minerals its like UGH!

Glad things are doing well with the Queen though :D

Hehe, where would you put it? Ah that thing, to be honest my Gourami tore the poor thing apart. It's got some new growth coming in though that they have not touched.

I did it to prevent future problems down the road. Two male Pearl Gourami do not get along and I"m pretty sure both are male. The female moonlight is being chased constantly by the er...horny male and it's the point she ends up in a corner terrified. I don't like seeing that so I removed her.

As for the male senegalus...I really feel it is in the best interest of the bichirs to limit the tank to two bichir only. That way each one can set up it's own territory away from each other if they decide they want their own personal space.

I figured you'd say something like that. . . it must have been so HARD for you to give up one of your Bichir babies - the gourami too, but they're all relative newcomers to your tank. . . you've had those bichir since they were bitty! I love that you ALWAYS make the right choices for your wet pets, I hope he finds a new home with someone as awesome as you are!

The male also really really doesn't like Queen. Yeah it was hard...I did take all three up to a really good pet store that cares about their animals. So I know that they are in good hands. I felt like shit for the rest of the day though and had to fight the urge to go back and demand to get him back. It's for the best interest of the other two and that's what I keep telling myself.

What is done is done though. I managed to bring home a bag of Eco Complete and once I have a second bag I've got the substrate ready for the 20 gallon upgrade.

You an me both. I know they tend to be picky about who their more demanding fish go to. The store goes as far as to jack up the prices of some fish and then bring them down when they have the "right" person for the animal.

Yeah I think my Gourami is eating mine too. The weird thing is its only the fully developed leaves that get eaten. The rest are left to grow. Very interesting.

Awww, I know I'd be feeling the same way, but you DID do the right thing. . . it's fantastic that you have such an awesome fish shop that you feel comfortable enough to trust your babies too. Something we are sorely lacking around here, unfortunately. . .ours are either bad, worse, or awful. . .

That does sound like an awesome pet store! I'm sorry to see them go, too, but I understand it's for the best. We're in this for them, not for us. I was pretty torn up when I gave away my two dojo loaches, but the store I gave them to ended up with them in their display (and not for sale!) tank.

And again, I just love that video of Queen interacting with you. She almost looks dog-like just without the overwhelming enthusiasm and drool.

Huh yours only touch the fully grown? Mine ate the tops off the new growth at one point but so far they've left the current batch of new growth alone. Might trim the stems sooon though.
That's the unfortunate thing about this hobby. You do get a lot of that with the shops who just don't care because the mentality is "Oh it's just fish". That's why it is up to us to try to be better than that and teach better than that too.

It is. I don't often buy fish from there since their stock usually doesn't suit me but all the same. You should see their bird area...they just have raised pillar like pedestals and the birds wander freely around. All their birds are hand raised too. It's an amazing experience when you walk in. Also that's great to hear.

Thank you. I love it when she does that. It's just special to me to have that kind of relationship + interaction. It's pretty special in general to have a fish that probably got wild caught in Africa living in my living room XD

You're make more people than just Termie into bichir-keepers! They are on my list to make a setup for one day (those silly little problems called money and space always seem to get in my way). It won't be nearly the size of yours and I will just have one, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity to keep an African dragon-dog-fish in my living room!
