120 gallon Rainbow fish and loach and bolivian rams

Here are some videos of my 120 Gallon planted tank
It houses mainly loaches and rainbows but has 2 bolivian rams in it also since I love them
The gold Gourami is now gone he developed swim bladder

Loaches: Clowns, Golden Zebra and 1 Queen loach can't find anymore of them

Rainbows: Bosemani, Red, Parkinsons, and 3 dwarf females left from the 10 I originally started with in my smaller aquarium

Is there anyway you can sex my bolivians in that video one is alot smaller since I have only had that one for a few months now that my other Bolivian is in a bigger tank I thought I would find it a mate I think I had a female and this one is a male not sure can you tell I know you are a bolivian fan

Yup! I am. . . H U G E fan of these gorgeous fish! And I admit that it was the name in the title that caught my eye to stop by this thread, lol!

I just went back and re-watched both videos, but I can't get a clear look at either of their vents, I'm sorry! It's actually pretty easy to tell, if you know what you're looking for. . . if you have a clearer still image of their vents, I might be able to help - or if you'd like I can post up some images of my rams? Maybe you can see the difference in my males and females, and it could help you tell your babies apart?

If the white that I see on the bottom shot is her vent, then she's a girl - can't tell on the first one, still. I know, it's hard to get a good shot of a wiggly fish! With Bolivians, the vent is the ONLY way to tell gender. . . Males have a very slim tiny vent, more pointed toward the back. The vent of a female is larger and angled *slightly* more downward than back. Once you SEE it, you'll know, but it is tricky if you have two of the same gender! I have 3 females, and 2 males - so to me, the difference is obvious!

Here... it's just easier to SHOW you than to try to explain. . . these are two of my little brats:



The shot above is a male, see how thin and angled his vent is? It's really hardly there - my other male looks just the same.

The shot below is a female, see how thick her vent is, and the way it angles downward a bit more? It's very obviously there. . . and shaped as such so that she can release eggs. All of my girls look like this one.

You can't really tell with these guys by coloration, or elongated top-fins, or the filaments on their tails, etc, because these traits have been selectively bred into both genders at this point. . .




Hope that helps you to get a handle on the genders of your little ones! Be cautious when introducing a new Livie to the group - they can get snarky!!!

And I don't even SEE the background you guys are talking about! Maybe I have to go through the videos again, I was having too much fun looking at the beautiful fish and plants!!!

yeah I can't really tell on the small one with my contacts in I will have to look when I don't have them in and can see close up can't really see the vent at all on the smaller fish maybe thats because its a male if it is they are not bonding the big one rams it a few times a day I know someone from work that ordered to pairs one of them bonded the other didn't I love the way the lock lips its so cute
