I guess I could look in my dads wood pile that has been cut a year or more that should be dry enough right? | If you want branches, they will fall off a tree and dry as they lie on the ground. I don't know how long this takes; it may also vary from wood to wood. Don't cut off a branch, that obviously is not "dry," unless of course you then let it dry. I mentioned previously about the oven drying, I do not know for how long this is needed. If you were to cut through it, you would see whether or not it is dry; a second similar sized piece for this test would work.
