will an angel fish be ok in my tank?

hey,

I scanned through and could not find anything relating to my issue.
A petsmart employee (not that I would trust those nazis anyhow)
told me that an angel fish would not survive in my tank but wouldn't
tell me why. I have 3 phantom tetras and as of yesterday 1 pepper
cory. it is a 10 gallon tank with a 3 LED airstone under a castle
(makes it light up and bubble beautifully) and no live plants. she
told me this before I bought my other fish so its not a comunity issue.
I just wonder cus my friends angel just had babys and once he knows
there healthy he offerd to give me one. Also I am told it would dirty
up my tank rapidly. is this true?

No, they get way too big. Besides a lone angel would be lonely- you'd need 6, which requires a 55 gallon tank. Or a mated pair, which can be expensive, and I wouldn't have in less that 40 gallons anyways.

I think you're best off getting 3 more cories and another tetra. I'm pretty sure your tank is too small for those tetra as well. O_O

ok, the size of the tank is where i was seeing the issue. as far as the tank being to small according to what I have read quite a few places a 10 gallon tank is suitable for up to 6 or 7 of them (not that i plan to get that many) plus this tank is only till i move when i will be going to a 55 gallon and the 10 will only be a QT for new or sick fish and plants. thank you.

Once you get your 55 gallon you should be fine with them and the fish you have. Buy 6-7 angels all at once. They're what you're stuck with, angels usually don't appreciate new angels once their territory is established. :)
Important to note the vertical height of these fish- some can be 10 inches tall, so they need a tank that has height to it.
I recommend you read some more on them here- we have good info on them. :)

In the meantime I highly recommend to get your cory a few more friends at least- they are social as well and need friends.

Alright thanks for the link. I plan to get one or two more corys but I want to find a panda and a emerald. But for now (in the past 12 hours) he likes to school and play with the tetras

Please get several of each species, no less than three. Corys are very social fish, and they naturally occur in groups of hundreds and even thousands. Never have less than 5 or 6 corys in an aquarium. These can be the same species, or you can have two species with 3 of each. And build up from there.

Some species are more social than others; I have 3 C. panda in my 115g tank with over 30 corys representing several species. The pandas are almost always together. Some species spread out more, but they still need to know they have relatives with them.

I would build up your peppered school now, and once you upgrade look at other species.
I used to want as many species as possible, but seeing a group of the same species interacting is extremely rewarding. :)
