Who's eggs?

congrats angel, i hope all works out for you. i have a cluster of eggs right now also(NOT corrie eggs) with 1 of my angel pairs. i always like finding eggs.

FrogHerder...I'm as new to Cory eggs as you lol I only dealt with breeding Killi before and my old Cory's surly had eggs at one time or another...but with Boeseman's in the tank they were gone as snack before I'd wake up lol

From all I been reading really removing into a bucket with the very same tank water, keep the same temp and then wait anywhere from 3-6 days for the lil wigglers to hatch....

One interesting thing out found (kinda funny actually) is that some people believe this spawning is influenced by storms.....we just had a BIG BAD storm yesterday here...Truth? Coincidence? I donno...but sure interesting

So let's see what happens to us huh!?

alright ok...i know i shouldn't have posted my picture online here...granted I did indeed gain a few lbs over the holidays but not THAT much that i'd need to worry about lil glasses in my house filled with squished banana or squished pea .....sooo if they do hatch...they'll have to survive on FISH baby foods

i have had cory eggs many times the past year. it first started when my heater broke one night. i woke up and went to check the tanks and it had dropped to 65 degrees. i quickly ran to the petstore and picked up a new heater. that night one of my larger corys started acting funny and then suddenly started smearing little eggs on the glass and plant leaves. i was amazed, but right after her laying my pleco swam over and started eating them.

she now lays eggs every 3 months or so. i collected some with a razor blade and put them in nursery, but they never hatched. the last 2 times she has done this i came in after it was over and they were almost all eaten. i found a few random ones left but that was it.

i believe the storm thing, because i think the change in temp initiated her first spawning.

This is very true. If you want to spawn tropical forest fish and aren't having much luck, the things that will almost guarantee success (assuming the fish are OK) are:
- live foods to get them into condition,
- a major water change, up to 75% of the tank, and use cooler replacement water by a couple degrees,
- and do the pwc on a day of low pressure (stormy, rainy).

The fish definitely feel the pressure in the atmosphere. During low pressure days my characins frequently spawn, even without a pwc, but when the two coincide, guaranteed spawning activity that evening and the next morning. The pwc with cooler water replicates a tropical rainstorm, and these fish are programmed to spawn during the start of the rainy season when the forest floods and the fish spawn among plants now under water and food is plentiful for the fry.

For one I'm totally discouraged now anything will hatch from my eggs.

For 2) Interesting there B. if only I knew the weather data vs my Killi's laying eggs...I never even thought about this before. I know about the temp drop to introduce and/ or water change but a outdoors storm to influence my tank....very interesting.....now I'm running back to my weather station see what the pressure was yesterday....so when its dropping to that pressure again with the next storm, I'm gonna stay up late with a flash light on hand
Now I have double the reason to check our weather ALL the time lol, not only for our outdoors activity but for the fish too

FrogHerder, many fish will lay eggs without them being fertilized. I'm not sure if bronze and peppered corydoras can hybridize (although I somewhat doubt it) so odds are that one is a female and simply laid unfertilized eggs.

I've had cories spawn pretty regularly but I've never attempted to save the eggs. The cories themselves are pretty enthusiastic about eating the eggs, so they're usually gone within 24 hours.

yeah i figured that they just hadn't had time to get fertilized. i have 3 females and 2 males i believe. the females get really really fat then lay eggs... might want to watch for that next time then protect the eggs until the male can do his thing.
