What Filter do you use?

ITA. I have two AC 110 on my 125 and one is driving me nuts!! They are both over 5 years old though ~ still. I can hear it NOW.

It knows I am coming for it.

Homemade wet dry all the way. I've moved to different apartments twice since getting these fish...wet dry makes it great since most of the bacteria actually ends up being in the filter, making their bucket living much nicer. :)

I consider the sound of the water part of the filter noise, since not all filters make that noise. I do not like the trickling sound HOBs make. My aqua clear though from bran new out of the box made the most irritating vibrating sound. I tried tons of things and nothing would make it quiet. I have a noise OCD when I am going to sleep. Certain things drive me crazy if they are making noise when I am trying to fall asleep. My aquariums are one of them. The aquaclear was quickly replaced by a Fuval 2+ which can be DEAD silent most of the time. Its in my bedroom and I only occasionally have problems with it, most of the time you can't even hear it even if you are trying to. Its way quieter then the central air.

never been a fan of wet/dry filters, too many summer power outages...

ANOTHER reason to get a canister. The filters WILL resume once the power comes back on, while many HOBs need to be primed. Even the excellent AC filters will empty out and not restart (possibly burning the motor out from running dry when power returns) if the water is too low. And you never have to prime a canister after a water change.
