Which water flow from filter

I see jennesque pulled me into this so I'll add my thoughts. As AD said, even/odd generally doesn't matter. However, if you are dealing with some fish species in low numbers, say below 6, it can make a difference in the issue of hierarchy that jennesque mentioned.

The ratio of male/female is often of more importance than the total number. Livebearers for instance should have 2-3 females per each male, and some characins are like this. Depends upon the species. Some of the Apistogramma dwarf cichlids are harem fish with the same ratio.

Aside from the above concerns, I myself prefer odd numbers for no other reason than perception. Three or five flowers in a vase look better than 2 or 4. It is very doubtful that I can actually see this in a group of 14 or 15 tetra, but I think it when I buy them.

Back to the cichlid tank. The two blue zebras are now in the large tank at my doctors so I just have the two yellow labs left in the 29 gallon, not sure what to do since I haven't seen a possible home for them yet. Right now they are 6 months old or more (I've had them 6 full months); one is about 2-1/2" long, the other about 2" even. Not sure about sexes but it may be one and one since the larger is showing black edges on upper and lower fins, the smaller only on the upper. How much larger will these two get and how soon?
