Product stress coat does not address ammonia. It detoxifys chlorine and breaks the bond of chlorine and ammonia from CHLORAMINES but leaves the ammonia for biological filter to break down. This is ok for established tanks with healthy biological filter, but in new tanks,, there isn't the bacteria yet established to deal with the ammonia from CHLORAMINES which is a combination of chlorine and ammonia.
Product PRIME detoxifys chlorine, chloramines,AND ammonia. It also can be used at double the dose when dealing with elevated nitrite levels. It also deals with heavy metals.
Anything that claims to coat the fishes skin with substance such as aloe vera in my opinion,, must then also coat the fishes gills and nostrils as well ,thus making it more stressful on fish. Others claim that aloe vera can't adhere to anything in water and doesn't do anything to benefit the fish.
My own expierience with such products only proved to clog filters much too quickly.
I use PRIME cause it deals with the afore mentioned chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia and it takes considerably less of PRIME to treat ten gal of water than it does most other conditioners.
