That reminds me of one I saw in the 1980's when living in Victoria. A fellow who built tanks for a hobby (all the stores in Victoria and Vancouver sold them in those days, they were very well made) built a tank in his house. When you went in, the dining area was on the first level, then down 3-4 steps to the sunken living room. In the corner of the stairs from floor to ceiling was a circular marine tank about 6-7 feet diameter, the column of coral up the centre so the fish swam all around it within the circular tank. It went down into the basement where the mega-filtration set-up was--high lights, algae stuff, "sumps" I suppose, marine aquarists will know what all would be involved. It was quite the centrepiece of those two rooms.
